⚽️ BLACKPOOL 2026 ⚽️

As the sun sets on a fantastic weekend, our Blackpool 2026 football tournament has come to an end.

What a weekend it has been — both on and off the pitch!

On the pitch, there were plenty of highs, a few lows, and lots of lessons learned. Most importantly, every single one of our boys did themselves proud. They showed great character, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament and should hold their heads high after some brilliant performances.

Off the pitch, it was just as memorable. Parents and coaches enjoyed some well-earned downtime together, making the most of the sunshine, good company, and a few refreshments along the way! ☀️🍻

Pleasure Beach and Blackpool itself were an absolute blast. In fact, some of the boys even managed to get part of Blackpool Pier temporarily locked down after an unfortunate misunderstanding involving a water gun... we'll leave the full story for another day! 😬😂

We'll share a full tournament recap later this week, but tonight we want to recognise three incredible men who helped make the weekend possible.

👏 A huge thank you to our outstanding coaching team:

🏆 Tony Buchanan (Head Coach)
🏆 Richard Armstrong
🏆 Craig Forson

From all the players and parents, thank you for everything you do for our boys. Your time, commitment, patience, and enthusiasm don't go unnoticed, and weekends like this simply wouldn't happen without you.

A special mention must go to Head Coach Tony, who organised the entire trip from start to finish. Not only did he pull together a fantastic football weekend, but he also somehow managed to find great accommodation and a top-drawer breakfast every morning! 👌🏻

After a weekend packed with football, fun, laughter, and maybe not quite enough sleep, we think a few early nights are in order for both players and parents before training resumes on Wednesday! 😴

Next up, our Prize Giving Presentation on Friday night as we celebrate another fantastic season together.

Well done, boys. Safe travels home, and thank you to everyone who made this weekend one to remember.

🏆 SEMI-FINAL RESULT 🏆
Disappointing end to the boys cup run today as we went 5-1 down to Valspar 2012
A bit gutted as today we weren't really at it, which is unlike us of late, but we seem to have run out of steam.
The first half was really even, if a bit frantic, as both teams struggled a bit to relax and get the ball down and play.
It was us who took the lead though, from a great through ball to Declan to coolly slot beyond the advancing keeper.
We were a bit too relaxed though from KO and immediately allowed Valspar to equalise with a shot from outside the box.
Both teams had a few chances in the first half but could not quite put them away to take control of the game.
Half Time 1-1.
The halftime team talk was to try to play more and take advantage of the 2nd half downward slope.
After a bright first 10 mins though, we lost all shape and completely allowed Valspar to take control.
We had a few chances but could not find the net. Valspar did and so momentum stayed with them most of the 2nd half.
Based on the 2nd half Valspar 2012 were deserved winners and we wish them best of luck in the final.

Very disappointed for the boys but probably because we have been on such a great run and today hasn't been like us.

Last season we were not anywhere near the results we have had this year and to get to semi final is a great achievement and sign of how far the boys have come.

No final this year but last league game this week then off to Blackpool for tourney.

Lots to look forward to for the boys next season and interesting to see how much more progress we can make.

Match Result

The message to the boys today was simple – keep the positivity from the last few games going, and we’d give ourselves a great chance of reaching the cup semi-finals.

Despite a couple of injuries, the boys arrived ready to go and put in a strong warm-up – always a good sign 👍

From kick-off, we were straight on the front foot, applying pressure and keeping play in the KFA half early on. Our wide players, Declan and Sean, were full of energy, and it paid off after 5 minutes when Sean showed quick feet in the box to finish well past the keeper.

We settled nicely, although KFA kept us alert with some direct balls that our defence dealt with well. We felt a second goal would be important, and it came on 20 minutes – a great through ball followed up by Oliver, who calmly slotted home.

From there, the boys grew in confidence and started to play some excellent football. Just before half-time, Declan made a brilliant run down the right and picked out Ryan in the box to make it 3-0.

Half-time: 3-0

The message at the break was to keep playing and move the ball even better.

Early in the second half, KFA were unfortunate to concede an indirect free kick in the box. Olly touched it to Thomas, who powered his effort through a crowded area – the keeper got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

Ayaan then added a fifth with a clever run and composed finish from Rhuraidh’s through ball.

We lost our shape slightly after that, which can happen when you’re ahead, and KFA deservedly pulled one back. Credit to them—they kept pushing and made us work. Special mention to the KFA goalkeeper who pulled off various good saves throughout the match.

Full-time: 5-1

A strong performance overall, with some really good football played, and the boys fully deserved their place in the semi-final. It’s great to see their recent positivity and hard work paying off.

With so many standout performances across the team, we asked the referee to choose the Man of the Match. He awarded it to Thomas for his composure and strong defending throughout 👏

Glenburn 2–0 Lawthorn Thistle

Venue: The Oval
Competition: League Cup

Glenburn produced one of their most complete team performances of the season, securing a well-deserved 2–0 win over Lawthorn Thistle at The Oval and putting themselves in a strong position for a place in the semi-final draw.

First Half – Fast Start, Full Control

From the first whistle, Glenburn were on the front foot, pinning Lawthorn back and playing the majority of the early football in their half. Any time the visitors threatened, the Glenburn defence — backed by Harry in goal — stood firm. Their communication kept everything calm and organised.

What stood out wasn’t just the defensive discipline. Across the pitch, the boys were talking, directing and encouraging — Thomas wasn’t the only leader out there today. It was tremendous to see!

On 15 minutes, that understanding nearly paid off. Sean shaped up for what everyone assumed would be a lofted free-kick into the box, but instead slid a clever pass into Olly, who struck it well, only for the keeper to pull off a superb save.

Four minutes later, Glenburn got the breakthrough they deserved. Sean, who had been excellent from the start, latched onto a loose ball 25 yards out. He put his right foot through it, sending a rocket into the top of the net.

Glenburn 1–0 Lawthorn Thistle.

The pressure continued, though Harry was called into action on 22 minutes, getting down sharply to his right to push away a low effort.

Down the left, Lawthorn must have been sick of the sight of Declan. He ran, ran, and ran some more — bursting through lines, beating defenders and delivering dangerous crosses throughout the half.

After 25 minutes, Ayaan — who had worked tirelessly — made way for Aiden. Aiden wasted no time making an impact. With his first real involvement, he turned on a sixpence and fired a shot at goal, forcing another superb save from the Lawthorn keeper. Aiden went on to have a brilliant game.

The half ended with Glenburn fully deserving their 1–0 lead.

The half-time team talk was simple: more of the same.

Second Half – Composed and Clinical

Glenburn started the second half brightly, moving the ball with confidence and creating chances from all areas of the pitch.

Declan continued to torment Lawthorn’s back line, repeatedly blasting past defenders and finding himself one-on-one. His pace and directness caused real problems for the Lawthorn back line.

At the back, Glenburn remained composed. Any time Lawthorn approached the danger zone, the defence dealt with it calmly.

Up front, Harry and Will kept causing problems, supported well by the midfield.

Then, right at the death, Glenburn sealed it. Declan again caused chaos down the flank, driving into the danger area and putting the ball across goal. Sean was there to finish it off, grabbing his second of the match and securing the victory.

Glenburn 2–0 Lawthorn Thistle.

Full-Time Thoughts

This was a tight, competitive match, and unfortunately not everyone got game time today. The coaches made the difficult decision to keep changes minimal to protect the momentum and secure progression in the cup.

With Glenburn now looking odds-on for a place in the semi-final draw, there will be more opportunities ahead. The coaches know every one of the boys can make their mark, and those chances are coming — hopefully on the road to the final.

There were numerous contenders for Man of the Match; however, it goes to the guy Lawthorn will see in their dreams tonight.

Thanks again to Lawthorn Thistle YFC 2012 for another competitive match. This clash is proving to be a hugely competitive fixture.

This afternoon we return to home soil as we face close rivals Lawthorn Thistle in Matchday 2 of the group stage of the Henry Brown & Co Cup.

The squad head into today’s match in strong form, having scored over 20 goals in our last three games while conceding just four.

We caught up with the coaches ahead of kick-off, and their message to the boys was clear: keep building on the positive momentum created over the past few weeks and continue the high standards shown in recent performances.
