We had a visit today from a cricket groundhopper - meet Peter Tomlins.
He was perched on a bench at the Whittingham Lane end to watch our 1sts take on Chorley and we are the 738th cricket ground he has visited. Yes, 738!
Peter, who is from Chester, is on a mission to get to 1,000 different cricket grounds before 'he's no longer here'. His words, not ours!
He travels by public transport to all the grounds, it was a train from Chester (heavily delayed) to Preston and the 1 bus for today's route.
All the games he's seen are logged in his exercise book, with the date, result and any key performances too.
He's never played cricket, just enjoys watching and said 'it's the mystery of the game, you just never know what will happen'. Picking fixtures and grounds is based on a trawl of PlayCricket, today's adventure was either to visit us or head to Wrea Green.
Peter also very much enjoyed our unique feature at Grimsargh - the tree on the pitch - which which is four runs if it's hit, by either the batting or fielding side.
Sadly it wasn't a GCC win going into Peter's book before his return to Chester this evening as Chorley won by 96 runs.
Thanks for making Grimsargh a part of your groundhopping Peter and we wish you every success with the rest of your travels. And maybe we'll see you again when we're on the road!
