A huge thank you to everyone who volunteers at Grimsargh Cricket Club - from captains, to grounds staff, to those on the committee and everyone who does jobs big and small around the club. Including our leader and President, Phil 'Garly' Garlington.

We've been celebrating on our socials this week just a few of the individuals who help make Grimsargh the great community-spirited club it is for National Volunteers Week.

We might be a small club but we thrive thanks to the dedication, hard work and passion of all those involved and their contributions.

Thank you again. šŸ’ššŸ‘šŸ

A cricket club has no future without a junior section. And without Steve and Danielle Bell it's fair to say the bright path ahead we have for Grimsargh Cricket Club would not be lit.

The Bell family are the foundations the future of Grimsargh Cricket is built on, from running the All Star and Dynamos sessions on Sunday mornings for many years to organising and structuring our entire juniors division they are the lynchpins of the clubs. And without Steve and his groundwork we'd not have a pitch to play on either.

This National Volunteers' Week it is people like Steve and Danielle who are the lifeblood of communities like Grimsargh. Thank you for everything you do to support our young players, motivate them and keep the wheels of cricket at Grimsargh turning in so many different ways.

Sunday morning is All Stars and Dynamos time on the outfield at The Green, giving our youngsters the fundamentals of cricket in a fun and supportive environment.

Another busy morning as they were put through their fielding, bowling and batting practice.

Thank you to all our coaches who volunteer their time and to all the parents who bring our wannabe cricketers to the sessions.

A very special guest coach at All Stars this morning for our budding junior cricketers - as Twinkl shuffled sideways out of the GCC dressing room.

High fives all round and a great atmosphere down on The Green as our youngsters took on their fielding, bowling and batting drills.

A big thanks to Sam 'Twinkl toes' Goodman for being a good sport.

We had a visit today from a cricket groundhopper - meet Peter Tomlins.

He was perched on a bench at the Whittingham Lane end to watch our 1sts take on Chorley and we are the 738th cricket ground he has visited. Yes, 738!

Peter, who is from Chester, is on a mission to get to 1,000 different cricket grounds before 'he's no longer here'. His words, not ours!

He travels by public transport to all the grounds, it was a train from Chester (heavily delayed) to Preston and the 1 bus for today's route.

All the games he's seen are logged in his exercise book, with the date, result and any key performances too.

He's never played cricket, just enjoys watching and said 'it's the mystery of the game, you just never know what will happen'. Picking fixtures and grounds is based on a trawl of PlayCricket, today's adventure was either to visit us or head to Wrea Green.

Peter also very much enjoyed our unique feature at Grimsargh - the tree on the pitch - which which is four runs if it's hit, by either the batting or fielding side.

Sadly it wasn't a GCC win going into Peter's book before his return to Chester this evening as Chorley won by 96 runs.

Thanks for making Grimsargh a part of your groundhopping Peter and we wish you every success with the rest of your travels. And maybe we'll see you again when we're on the road!

Our young cricketers have an official cheerleader! As we meet Mrs Motivator...

Vicki Wagstaff is part of our youth coaching team and when her lad began playing, and loving it, she got involved too as a support coach. She's now also a driving force behind introducing a women's cricket softball side to Grimsargh for the first time (with our first training session happening next week!).

Vicki told us for National Volunteers Week: "Being a support coach means there is an extra pair of hands and eyes at training to keep them safe in the drills, but the biggest thing I bring is probably that I’m a massive motivator and annoyingly positive so there will always be high fives and praise available for every achievement the kids make, everything from learning to run in pads, to hitting a six!"

She says she's also learned new skills such as scoring and has found it all a challenge but a positive one.

And cricket runs in the blood too, she's dug out an archive pic of when her grandfather and uncle were playing in the 1970s for Bedworth Cricket Club in Warwickshire.

Thanks for all you do Mrs Motivator! šŸ’ššŸ™ŒšŸ’ŖšŸ‘

Plenty of cricket to come in the next few days - the 1sts host Chorley, 2nds head to Tarleton, Sundays off to Fylde and the Bodds are all board the Stevie D fun bus as they travel to Chipping. And the Super Lambs head to Fulwood & Broughton on Thursday evening. Here's how we line-up and go well, all. šŸ’ššŸ

Every cricket club needs a Maurice and Doreen.

The Bell's are in our spotlight today for National Volunteers Week as we tell you more about the team behind the scenes at the GCC.

Doreen, our treasurer, ensures everything is paid, settled, insured and plenty more too. Her fiscal rules help keep us afloat. And she's also one of the driving forces behind the annual Billy's Big Bash charity game.

While Maurice will always say 'how can I help?' as part of the ground group. Whether that's holding his nose to help the septic tank lorry get into the ground or cutting the outfield - all those jobs add up to a big contribution.

And the Bell name will long be associated with Grimsargh, with their grandsons George and Henry coming up through the ranks in the junior sides and George also starting to play for the Sundays.

Thank you Maurice and Doreen for everything you do at the club. šŸ’ššŸ

Next up in our series for National Volunteers Week celebrating the people who make Grimsargh Cricket Club the special community it is - takes us to those who help bring through the players of the future.

Dave Epton - or Coach Dave/Cricket Dave - has been working with our youngsters for many years as they start out playing.

He said: "As one of the junior team volunteer coaches I find it incredibly rewarding to guide the juniors in developing their cricket skills, enjoying playing the game and being part of a friendly club.

"It all started with my son Toby's involvement with Grimsargh CC since the age of 5.

"Winning helps too of course! The team pictured have now won their league in three of the last four seasons!"

Thank you Dave for all you do to support our young cricketers in learning about the game, keeping active and having fun.
