Perfect way to start solstice weekend ☀️🧜‍♀️

Our morning paddle&stretch session was very special and peaceful. We listened to the morning chorus around us, watched the gently lapping waves and enjoyed paddling, stretching and resting on the water being soothed by it's energy.

There is no better place to be and sharing it with my friend Emma makes it even more joyful 😍

This is a very special time of year for me and I love spending it doing all the things that fill my soul - the energy feels so peaceful at this time of year, the perfect pause. Next is a Finnish juhannus celebration at and tomorrow, Sunday I'm sharing a very special summer solstice mini retreat at . Can't wait!

Yoga practice is part of my daily life, but it might not be what you think.

It's not often a 1 hour asana practice.

Most of the time it is:
🩷 taking 5 minutes off to pause and focus on my breath
🩷 enjoying 10 minutes in a supported restorative pose
🩷 15 minutes of gentle stretching between classes or clients
🩷 20 minutes of morning sun salutations or qigong

These are just a few examples of how I practice every day. Sometimes it's 5 minutes, sometimes an hours practice. All of it counts.

Are you stepping on your mat today? Or maybe practising outdoors in the summer sunshine?

Next Sunday we will gather in this amazing place for a mini retreat to celebrate summer solstice.

Solstice time is very special for me and I have fond memories from my childhood, especially about summer solstice. The celebration of abundance of light, the beautiful pause this time of year offers and different traditions.

☀️ Summer solstice mini retreat

Sunday 21 June 16:00-20:00

Includes seasonal movement inspired by yoga&qigong, reflection&journalling, Finnish sauna and wild dip, fire circle plus snacks&refreshments.

This mini retreat is almost fully booked with just 2 spaces left. I can't wait to gather with you in this special place.

Two things I love to do on my days off: Sauna and knitting, and apparently today is both Finnish sauna day and knit in public day 🇫🇮 🧶

I enjoyed the best löyly at yesterday and today I'm staying at home cosying up with my knitting project - a 3 colour summer cardigan (in fact, I got so focussed on my project, I missed a yin yoga workshop I was meant to take part in 🤦🏼‍♀️ sorry - I blame the yarn and kitten!). So not knitting in public today, but I frequently take my knitting to cafes and other public places and proud of it.

I do bring both of my passions into my work:

🇫🇮 Join me for my next Aamusauna - morning movement&sauna session tomorrow, Sunday 14th June 08:45-11:30 at Niku Naku sauna in Bala. Outdoor yoga connecting with the season followed by a private 80 min sauna session. ✨️ 2 spaces left ✨️

🧶 I also run Nordic knitting courses from my cosy studio here in Mid Wales. My new courses start in the autumn. If you have a group and would like to learn to knit, I'm also happy to run private courses from beginners knitting to socks and jumpers. Get in touch via DM if you are interested.

Being playful and a bit silly sometimes is so good for the soul.

I love bringing playful exploration into my own practice and share this in my classes too.

This morning in my class, I invited my students to be really curious about what the body needed - what it was asking for and what would honour the body most in that moment. It's amazing to see this curiosity leading to different options being taken. This is advanced yoga practice - not the more complicated poses or going deeper, but to really listen and respond to the needs of the body. A fundamental and often neglected part of the practice.

To me, the most important thing when someone comes to my classes is that they truly feel they have the choice. The choice to practice how it feels best for them. I often say this in classes: I'm here to guide you, but you are in your body so choose what feels good for you.

If you read this far, I invite you to just take a minute for yourself to stop and:
💛 notice what's present in your body
💛 check in with different parts of your body with curiosity and kindness
💛 place a hand or bring your awareness to an area in the body that needs your attention - tell it that you are listening
💛 move your body in one way that feels welcome whether it is just a little stretch, some rocking or maybe shaking any tension out
💛 observe how you feel

This little check in could be a great daily practice and doesn't have to take long.

Did you find it useful? Feel free to share what came up for you 🥰

Finished my week by swimming in my favourite Llyn and bathing in my favourite sauna and THAT drive over the mountain 🤩

Perfect way to ease at the end of the week and feel relaxed for my monthly yin yoga workshop I hold online 😌

Didn't take any photos, had my phone in my bag the whole time and adored that spaciousness. But I've taken so many photos in the past which I always forget to share so here is a selection of some of my faves.

At the start of the new season I love taking time to reflect on the season we are leaving behind: what I have learned, what I want to let go of and set gentle, heartfelt intentions for the new season.

My word for summer is spaciousness 🫶🏻 I want to create and embody this in work and in my personal life.

What do you want to embody this summer? Do you have a word for the season?

Fabulous sauna as always at

Collaborations and connections with like-minded souls to share my events and retreats with is such a joy - I wouldn't do it any other way! Plus sharing from places that spark that something in me is also very special.

I'm grateful for every single connection and friendship 💓

From people who I've been collaborating with for years to people who I have just connected with, this way of working offers so much more to me as a facilitator but also as someone attending with a variety of practices.

Here's a shout out to my amazing friends and people I connect with, give them a follow to support other small businesses:

Yesterday, we gathered for my last of this seasons Saunarauha events at by the shores of Llyn Tegid/Bala Lake.

🔥 We gathered around the fire in late afternoon sun to settle and to connect (and eat cake). I shared snippets of my Finnish culture and the concept of Saunarauha (sauna peace).

😌 A warm, cosy sauna waited for us, and we bathed in the stillness of the sauna, embracing the sounds, scents and sights around us. The hiss of the löyly was magical in the stillness.

🧘🏼‍♀️ As the afternoon turned into evening, we gathered in the beautiful newly decorated room next door with those stunning views over the lake and mountain for a 90 minute restorative yoga&seasonal yoga nidra. We welcomed the new season and seasonal energy of summer together with acupressure points to support our wellbeing.

The key message was all about the simple things.

This is where I feel connected - a place that is most authentic to me. Both the guys who founded and run Niku Naku Sauna and I share the same ethos: it's the simple things that make the biggest impact. No gimmicks, no fancy gadgets or techniques - just connectivity and a good löyly.

Join my next morning movement&sauna event on Sunday 14 June 08:45-11:30. Book at www.anjayoga.co.uk/sauna (link in bio)
