Red light is used (rather than white) to preserve our natural night vision, minimise disturbance to crew members and wildlife, and prevent glare and reflections that can cause safety issues.
You can see the difference that the B&G plotter projecting white light from the screen does (it can be adjusted), as well as the cardinal in the distance. Even the amount of light coming from the stern cabin is overdoing it a bit. Our skipper is keeping a vigilant eye on our heading to ensure we don't drift into 'bad news'.
If you look very closely, you'll see a red face staring back at you in preparation for Halloween! ๐คช
