As our CEO, Steve Johnson, moves on to pastures new, it is only fitting that we take a moment to thank him for his outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to Royal Navy Football over the last 44 years.

Steve has played a pivotal role in shaping the RNFA into the organisation it is today, successfully guiding it through periods of change while ensuring that the traditions and values of Royal Navy Football remained at its heart.

His journey with the Royal Navy Football Association began long before his time in the office. Steve made his Royal Navy debut on 3 November 1982 and went on to make an incredible 232 appearances for the Senior Team—a record that still stands today. His final appearance came on 19 February 2005, ending a remarkable playing career that saw him surpass even one of his mentors and Royal Navy legends, Tommy Johnson, in the appearances list.

Steve's contribution to Royal Navy Football continued from the touchline, leading the Senior Team to Inter-Service success as manager in 1998. He then moved into football development in 2003 before succeeding the late, great Steve Vasey as Chief Executive Officer in 2014.

Throughout his time as CEO, Steve has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for Royal Navy personnel to play, enjoy, and develop through football. His leadership has helped strengthen the game across the Service, supporting countless players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and teams along the way.

It is no exaggeration to say that Royal Navy Football would not be where it is today without Steve's passion, vision, and commitment.

On behalf of everyone connected with the RNFA, thank you for everything you have given to the game and to the Royal Navy Football family.

We wish you every success and happiness in your new role.

After four days of competitive football, involving more than 120 players alongside numerous RNFA officials and coaches, we now have a winner of this year's Inter Region Tournament.
The Eastern Region were crowned 2026 champions after edging out a spirited Royal Navy Development side in a closely contested final.
After 90 minutes, the game was locked at 1–1, meaning the title had to be decided by a penalty shootout, where Eastern Region emerged victorious.
The RNFA would like to extend its sincere thanks to all RNFA officials for their support throughout the week, and to Havant & Waterlooville FC for being outstanding hosts.
Most importantly, we would like to recognise the coaches and backroom staff from all participating teams, whose tireless efforts continue to provide the platform for RNFA grassroots football to thrive.
Congratulations to Eastern Region on becoming the 2026 Inter Region Tournament Champions.

Eastern Region 2–1 Royal Marines
Group B Result
RN Development 4–2 Northern Region
Following these results, the final will be contested between Eastern Region and RN Development.

Prior to the Fleet Air Arm game a minute's silence was held to show respect to the three air crew who sadly lost their lives a fortnight ago.

A special shoutout to the crew of HMS Trent, who are currently alongside in Florida and recently had the opportunity to watch England in one of their FIFA World Cup warm-up matches.

We were grateful to receive complimentary tickets, giving HMS Trent personnel the chance to experience the excitement of the World Cup firsthand and join thousands of passionate England supporters in the build-up to the tournament.

Opportunities like these create lasting memories and are a fantastic reward for our personnel serving overseas.
