On a cold and blustery day at Grove Corner, after a delayed KO time and confusion around pitch allocations, the lads were unable to bag a win this week.

With 2 goals from Alfie⚽️⚽️, bringing back some of his magic, and a pen from Olly⚽️ this wasn’t enough for them to hold on to the lead, as Dexters won the game 4-3 with a goal in the last few minutes.

The lads have been disappointed with their performances over the last few weeks, and with only 3 games left until our grassroots team comes to an end, we hope they can turn it round and end their season the way they’ve played many times over the last few years!
We are, as always, proud of them in everything they do- we just need that fighting spirit and belief in each other as team mates to return and give them the end to the season that they deserve.

Dropped the ball in this one lads!! Heads up as we go again ⚽️⚽️

👀 Oooops!! 🫣

So, the ball was officially dropped last week, as life took over on and off the pitch!

The lads saw a 4-0 home defeat against league leaders, Moordown and Southbourne, and the ‘guy’ incharge of social media seems to have had a week off 🤔🙄😬🤣

We go again today in another home fixture against Dexter Sports Tigons.

A short match report today!!
This Sunday saw the lads travel ‘up north’, well north of the county anyway, to face Gillingham on their home turf 🧡vs💙!!

The game started slowly for The Blues, seeing Gill take the lead with a goal in the first ten minutes of the match. With Portland then having to fight hard to pull it back to a draw before half-time, we saw the wonder that was Ronnie ⚽️ today- and our very well deserved player of the match- find the back of the net after an assist from Alfie, just minutes before the half time whistle!

1-1 at half time and after a few ‘words of wisdom’ from the gaffer, Portland came back out full of energy 💪🏻!!
Within 8 or 9 minutes we then saw Joey step up to take a corner kick, finding the head of Rhys ⚽️ and making it 2-1 to the away team.

The half played out with equal energy from both teams but after the ref called for a Gillingham free kick, it saw the home team equalise after a great strike for one of the lads in orange 🥅!!

The game ended in a draw of 2-2 and the lads took home one point to add to the league table today.

No game scheduled for next week- so here’s to an early Happy Mothers Day to all our fantastic football mummies who spend their Sundays on the sidelines and those that offer lifts around the county to not just their own young people but those that need a lift to away games at times too!

As a team it was a happy day all round and spirits were lifted before the match even began 💙. This came in the form of the news we’d all been hoping and praying for after weeks and weeks of waiting. That’s right folks…

…GAME ON!!

Today we played in an away fixture against Wool and Winfrith.

A quick 2 goal lead was taken by The Blues in the first half as Oliver- aka ‘Bouch’ ⚽️⚽️ hit them home within the first 5 minutes of the game!
W&W pulled back a goal before half-time and and then started the second half with another quick goal to make it 2-2.
As this half progressed we saw another super strike from ‘Bouch’⚽️, giving him his first hatrick for PUYFC💙!!
We then saw a goal from Alfie ⚽️ to make the score 4-2 and as the lads progressed through a really, really long second half, Wool and Winfrith were able to make the score line closer as they secured another during a goal mouth scramble.

The game ended with a PUYFC win and Oliver ‘Bouch’ being awarded Player or the Match for his brilliant hatrick- hopefully the first of many.

After a week of poor weather and little training the U16s took to Grove Corner this weekend to play a home game against Phoenix Flames.

Unusually for The Blues, they began to play the game this week in fair weather. Phoenix fought hard from the beginning, with their limited squad, but Portland came back at them and just after 10 minutes of play Rhys⚽️ was able to make good of a tough situation, from a corner ball that ricocheted around the box, as he headed the first goal into the back of the net.
As momentum built the Phoenix’s goalkeeper kept the pressure on The Blues, with some great goal kicks, one in particular putting Portland’s defence into a bit of a sticky position where they managed, some how, to head the ball past their own keeper. Oops 😬

As half time approached #9 and #19 for the home side - Olly.B and Oliver.B - linked up well, with Olly⚽️ managing to slot the ball nicely away as they took the lead entering the second half.

Second half started with confidence from the Portland side, as a tired Phoenix team fought back to try and level things out.

The Portlanders, however, had a different idea and along with the wind and rain coming to greet us - I mean it wouldn’t be a Sunday home game without it- we also saw the lads pick up their own storm as we saw goals flying in from everywhere.

First was a great individual run from Tommy⚽️, who found the ball at his feet and powered it into the top of the net.
A long awaited first goal of the season for Jayden⚽️, who has just returned to the team after a significant time away from being able to play- welcome back Jay 💙. This goal was worth waiting for as it screamed past the keeper at speed.
Within minutes Rhys⚽️ was able to get the ball to his feet on the turn, assisted by some quick foot work by Tommy, as he attacked the Phoenix goal with a ‘sweet and low’ left foot effort, right past the away teams keeper.
Next up was Oliver ⚽️, with his debut goal for The Blues. We welcomed Oliver earlier this season and he is fitting in nicely with the current squad, adding hard work and determination to the team where it’s needed.
With Portland continuing the game and further pressure on the away side by attacking consistently and getting the ball into the box. This led to a ‘cute’ little side shot from Olly⚽️, slotting the ball past the keeper into the far corner. The final of Portland’s goals came once again from Oliver⚽️ with a determined drive into the box through a group of players and another shot into the far corner of the net.

Player of the match went to Rhys, for his brilliant performance throughout the game- well done 👏🏻
Final score was 8-1- giving Portland another home win💙.

Huge thanks to Phoenix Flames for travelling to us this weekend, especially with the unprecedented (well, normal Portland winter) weather conditions we’ve been having recently 🌧️ 🌬️ 🌊!!

A tough game ahead next weekend, as Portland travel away to Moordown and Southbourne, who currently sit in 2nd place in the league table. 🔵COYB🔵
