Planned Row to Lismore!
We organised a club trip over to Lismore to Port Ramsey to visit one of our members for lunch. It was a lovely, relaxed social row, a chance to enjoy the scenery and share a meal together once we arrived.

Rowing is one of the best all-round workouts you can do - and here’s why:Full-body strength – Every stroke uses legs, core, back, and arms together.
- Cardio fitness: Builds stamina and lung capacity without the high impact of running.
- Joint-friendly: Low-impact motion makes it ideal for all ages and abilities.
- Posture & core stability: Strengthens the muscles that support your back and spine.
- Balance & coordination: Rowing demands rhythm and control, improving overall body awareness.
- Community & connection: It’s a great way to meet people and work as a team.
- New Skills: Learn how to tie knots, launch a boat, and even try coxing, gaining local knowledge of tides, landmarks, and seamanship.
Rowing with Appin Skiff Coastal Rowing Club gives you all this - plus sea air, stunning views, and great company.

We had a brilliant couple of days last month at SCRA (Scottish Coastal Rowing Club) Training Weekend. The Friday focused on racing cox and umpire training, followed by general and racing rowing technique on Saturday. The weekend finished with afternoon races, putting the training into practice.
It was great to meet other teams from the area, including Lorn Coastal Rowing Club and Isle of Luing Coastal Rowing.
Congratulations to Graeme, who won two medals as part of the winning teams in Men’s 50+ and Men’s Open categories.

A few weeks ago we had a fantastic 9km row with Lochaber Coastal Rowing. We stopped for a picnic on Eilean Gainimh, soaking up the fresh air and the stunning surroundings, before heading back via Sheep Island and Port Appin.
It was a lovely opportunity to row in good company, share stories on the water, and appreciate the peaceful beauty of our coastline. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a memorable day.

We had a fantastic day out rowing alongside Boatie Blest - Cockenzie & Port Seton Community Coastal Rowing Club

24 members took to the water with five skiffs, including Nellie G and one Appin Skiff crew. We launched from Linnhe Marina, rowing around Shuna, down to Lismore, and stopping at Rubha Ban for lunch (and a quick swim).

Afterwards, we carried on to admire Castle Coeffin, then rowed down to the Port Appin lighthouse, taking in the stunning views of Castle Stalker before returning to Linnhe Marina.

Thank you so much for a brilliant day full of great company, boat talk, and new ideas for future trips. We’re already looking forward to a return visit and more shared adventures on the water.

This week, four of our coxes were out on the water practicing Person in Water recovery methods - essential skills for everyone involved in water sessions.

They worked through several real-world scenarios:

Throw rope recovery and towing the person in

Managing both conscious and unconscious casualties

Recovery with both buoyancy aids and deployed lifejackets

It was a great hands-on session focused on safety, teamwork, and confidence on the water.

For those who couldn’t attend, we’ve attached the Person Overboard notes from the Cox Training Manual so you can review the techniques and stay up to date with procedures.

🚣‍♀️ September on the water 🚣‍♀️
What a way to start the month for Appin Skiff Coastal Rowing Club - sunshine, showers, flat calms and choppy adventures. Here’s a little photo dump of our rows so far this month 🌊
From early morning starts to evening outings, it’s been brilliant to see so many of people in the boat house and out on the water. Here’s to a strong autumn season ahead! 💪
