Last Saturday Rengokai teams from Portsmouth University, Portchester and Forest Lyndhurst Karate Club's attended the Annual 2026 Legend Championships in Guildford.

Today was a special occasion with the presentation of Bobs Yondan Diploma. Bob commenced his karate journey more than 45 years ago. Like all of us, he has had his ups and downs, but always came back with renewed tenacity.
The “Dads Army” class is full of such people, who despite the years of adversity keep going!
Of course the camaraderie, good humour and inclusivity helps a great deal.

Kata Focus class 7/2/26 - Gojushiho Dai.
Thank you to Sensei's Paul, Pat, Craig, Adrian and Yani for looking after the class. The instructors developed various kata parts with appropriate bunkai. Always great to see the meeting up of old friends, the friendly conversations before and after the class, with the in between part devoted to developing their skills against each other.
Congratulations to Bob and Sean on receiving their Yondan and Sandan grade Diplomas.

Kata Focus class - Saturday 18th October.
Following on from my development of the Gankaku kata techniques and key combinations, Sensei's Pat and Craig covered the bunkai interpretations. The final fifteen minutes were spent with the class split into four person teams. The overall result been that at the end of the class the Gankaku first timers understood, as a minimum, the pattern of the kata with some basic bunkai interpretaions.

Presentation of Sensei Pat O'Sullivans Rokudan (6th dan) Diploma.
It was a rather special occassion on Wednesday for Sensei Pat to receive his 6th Dan Diploma.
Over the years Sensei Pat has taught and encouraged numerous students to achieve their best. Always known by his smile and friendly encouragement, I know there will be many many current and ex students that will join in congratulating him on his attaining this grade. It was a great pleasure to have Senseis Faye, Andy and Craig with Guru Jason Boh, all from the early years of Sensei Pats teaching, present.
