All too often, popular diets today promise extreme weight loss.
Most never live up to expectations.
But even if they did, what’s the benefit of losing 14 pounds in 10 days, if you’re STARVING, FATIGUED and STRUGGLING to keep weight off?
These types of diets can take a huge psychological toll.
Many of us are, in a sense, estranged from our bodies and have learned to disregard critically important feedback signals that provide information about our internal state.
Calorie restricted diets require you to ignore one such signal - HUNGER - providing an array of endless behavioural tricks to do so.
Call a friend, go for a walk- anything to take your mind off your hunger.
Serving meals on smaller plates, so that you’ll believe you’ve eaten more than you have.
The PROBLEM is, this strategy makes the body- mind disconnect worse.
No diet creator could possibly know what level of calorie intake is right for everyone.
People’s needs vary based on age, size, physical activity, and individual metabolic differences. And some people, perhaps for genetic reasons, simply cannot tolerate rapid weightloss.
My solution to this problem is designed to work from the inside out, creating internal conditions for weight loss to occur naturally.
1. Making a realistic food plan that you’re going to stick with. Even when life throws a curve ball 🎾 at you.
2. Eat ONLY when hungry, and stop 🛑 when satisfied but before becoming uncomfortably full.
3. Get 7-8 hours of sleep 💤 per night. When you’re tired and hangry, you’re more likely to make unhealthy food choices and overeat.
4. Drink enough water 💧 . How much? Until your p*e runs clear. Have a glass of water when you first start to feel hungry or you feel you want to eat. You may find you were actually thirsty and not hungry after all.
Your body will find the rate of weight loss right for you- 2 pounds a week or more for some, perhaps just half a pound a week for others. But without DEPRIVATION or HUNGER, these results will be progressive and sustainable.
