💚 MATCH RESULT 💚

DEVON ATHLETIC 2 - 3 ADMIRAL MACBRIDE

Yesterday devon hosted admiral which started very lively from the get go

Devon started the game pushing for the opener with a lot of pressure however it was the visitors that took the lead with a diagonal cross that found the head of their attacker into the top left corner

0-1

Devon didnt let that drop their heads and they continued to probe admirals defence and it wasnt long before devon hit back when ash hooper picked the ball up just off the edge of the box cut inside and took a shot that the keeper parried to the right of the goal and jamie nicholls followed it up took a touch hit it low and hard into the bottom corner of the net

Devon then had their tails up passing with real intent and pushing their back 4 backwards again ash picked up the ball to shoot it was blocked by their centre back kam dixon then reacted and headed it over the top of their defender for jamie nicholls to run through and poke it past the goalkeeper

2-1

Admiral started to get a foot on the ball with some purpose and getting a bit of joy down the right hand side a ball was played through harry williams had a slight slip trying to block the through pass and their attacker slotted it into the back of the net

With admiral having the momentum right on the stroke of half time the referee gave a contentious penalty harry williams battling their player for the ball took a tumble and the ref pointed to the spot despite protests the ref wasnt going to change his mind
Admirals player made no mistake with a well taken penalty

In the second half devon had most of the opportunities to pull a goal back with the most distinctive being jamie nicholls who found himself inside the box very late in the game tried to wrong foot the keeper and poke in his third of the game and the keeper dived the wrong way but has somehow kept it out with his toe.

The lads were gutted not to get a result but we will re group over the summer and look forward to pre season

💚 MATCH RESULT 💚

DEVON ATHLETIC 4-0 TAVISTOCK WANDERERS

Yesterday devon took on tavistock at jennycliffe in what was one way traffic the whole game

Devon had enough chances in this game to hit double figures it just took a while to get going.

Westy had the first big chance breaking the lines with some lovely footwork taking it round the keeper but with such a tight angle hitting the outside of the post.

Nicholls was next to test the durability of the woodwork after another ball played across the box found its way to the striker whos effort came off the post.

Multiple chances came and went for the devon lads and it felt like it was just going to be one of them days

But just before the half time whistle Nicholls broke the deadlock. A lovely lofted ball from Ashmore at the back found its way over the top of tavis back line nicholls knocked it forward ahead of the defender with his head before slotting it with a left footed effort low and hard under the goalkeeper 1-0 to the home side

HT 1-0

The second half saw devon click into another gear almost instantly nicholls nearly found the second goal of the afternoon with a left footed half volley narrowly going wide.

It wasnt long before devon found their second another great ball splitting tavis defence apart found nicholls in behind who stormed into the box with an on rushing keeper cut it back to find mcleod to tap into an empty net 2-0 to the home side.

The home side began to start running riot kam dixon was running the show the whole game found himself next on the score sheet with a lovely bit of play down the right hand side ethan ashworth has absolutely sent his man to the shops with a shoulder shimmy layed off dixon whos long range effort crashed the back of the net 3-0 to the home side

Devon were cruising and enjoying their football slick passing and progressive play through the final third it was only a matter of time before we hit the net again.
This time tavi failed to clear a corner the poor clearance landed with ashmore who has arrowed an absolute rocket into the top bins from outside the box

Last real chance of the game saw a ball come across the box from ashworth who found mcbride 3 yards out and some how managed to put it over the bar 🙃

With only 10 minutes to go in the game tavi started to lose all composure with devon having a free kick a tavi player threatened mcbride who complained to the ref about it and with a poor refs decision he decided to sin bin mcbride.

Full time 4-0

We would like to thank tavistocks manager for the apology and how she conducted herself when the tavi lads got mouthy at the full time whistle. Your a credit to your club

MOTM- kam dixon.. kam was outstanding from start to finish today controlled the whole game scored a great strike and gave the tavi lads a hard day at the office.

Dick of the day- james mcbride.. some how ended up getting a sin bin for the second time in 2 weeks but also missed an absolute sitter from 3 yards minutes before the sin bin.

A special mention to Darren J Price who helped me manage the game today and had a little cameo on the pitch himself. Good to see you back mate. 💚

Yesterday we welcomed firkin scholar to jennycliffe where it was only one side that looked like they were going to take 3 points

Devon athletic started on the front foot from the first whistle the message this week was play simple football and move the ball around and trust each other. And thats exactly what they did.

The lads certainly kept their back line and keeper busy and the real first chance fell to Westy with a lovely ball fed through to him from almond, westy took a touch and let one fly in what looked destined to hit the back of the net credit to the keeper whos pulled off a great save.

Almond then found himself in the middle with a bit of space to thread a lovely ball into hooper with options to his left and right but hooper had other ideas he charged straight through the middle taking on not just one but 4 of their players pulling their pants right down twisting and turning and firing a rocket into the top bins

1-0 to the home side

The next real big chance fell to nicholls who found himself on yet another great pass from white around the back of their defence with a long ball over the top with the ball bouncing tried lobbing the keeper but got too much in it and it flew over the bar.

HT 1-0

The message at half time was keep the momentum and work hard for each other keep playing the way we were and devon did exactly that

It wasnt long before white played another long ball from the back splitting the lines for nicholls to get on the end of behind the defence this time nicholls hit it low into the bottom side netting

2-0 to the home side

Mcbride then decided he was going to test the referee on his boundaries on foul throws which did not end well where he was sin binned for 10 minutes so the lads had to re shuffle and sit in for 10 minutes but firkin still couldnt find any joy even with a man advantage

The lads kept coming forward played some lovely football down the right hand side and hooper who was everywhere today unleashed a curling effort that struck the woodwork.

The devon athletic lads back 4 were superb today firkin never really troubled our keeper who was one of two players to make their debut today and kept a clean sheet in the process

Man of the match
Rob white picked up the motm award today making his debut for the club and was a rolls royce for us today. Calm and collected at the back. Picking up an assist too
