🦅 YMCA HAWKS 7–0 OCEAN CITY 🦅

Match Report

A tough pre-season is finally over and it was time to start the season! What a beautiful morning to get the league campaign underway. ☀️⚽

The boys were outstanding from the very first whistle.

We made a small change to the new formation and the boys played it perfectly. The passing was confident, the movement was excellent and the Hawks were really starting to find their rhythm.

AJ was absolutely destroying the left-hand side with his dribbling skills, causing Ocean City problems every time he got the ball. 🔥

We’ve told the boys all summer that we need to shoot more, and the first goal came from exactly that.

James Flanagan had a shot saved, but who else but our top goalscorer from last season, River, to pounce on the rebound and score the first goal of our season! ⚽

And it didn’t take long for River to get his second.

Straight from kick-off we won the ball back and within a minute we were 2–0 up! River again, with a class finish after running onto a perfectly weighted through ball. 👏🏻

The boys were giving absolutely everything!

⏱️ HALF TIME — Hawks 2–0 Ocean City

A few changes were made at half time and one of those players instantly made the most of his opportunity.

Denzil picked up the ball just inside the box and fired home a sweet finish to make it 3–0! ⚽👏🏻

The Hawks were purring now… and it wasn’t long before we had four, then five!

James Flanagan got himself two goals.

The first came after some fantastic passing football, before Flanners found a gap between a couple of defenders and finished brilliantly.

His second was even better — a strike from outside the box that sailed over the keeper! 🚀

Ocean City managed to get through a couple of times, but either of the Harrys were on hand to mop things up comfortably. 🧤

After a few questionable decisions from the referee, we were finally awarded a penalty, with James F involved again after being brought down.

Rather than taking it himself, Flanners wanted his teammates to get on the scoresheet and handed the responsibility over.

That shows the bond and togetherness that is so strong within this team. ❤️

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be for Harry from the spot, but he showed fantastic character. He picked himself up, collected the ball, drove forward and smashed a sweet shot past the keeper!

🔚 FINAL WHISTLE — HAWKS 7–0 OCEAN CITY

MATCH REPORT

YMCA Hawks U12s 2–3 Southgate Blues U12s

Today was our first pre-season fixture, with the game played over four quarters instead of the usual two halves.

The first quarter belonged to the Hawks. The boys showed fantastic composure from the first whistle, keeping the ball well and controlling large spells of play. Despite our dominance, we found ourselves 1–0 down against the run of play. The players came in for the first water break happy with their performance, knowing they had started brightly.

The second quarter began in much the same way. Riley moved into central midfield and, within minutes, instinctively lobbed the goalkeeper after the ball fell kindly to him, bringing us level at 1–1. It was an evenly contested quarter from there, with both sides creating chances and exchanging attacks.

The visitors edged the third quarter, scoring to make it 2–1. However, the Hawks continued to play some exciting football, enjoying the lion's share of possession and coming close on several occasions.

The fourth quarter was another closely fought contest. Southgate Blues looked dangerous on the counter-attack and managed to extend their lead to 3–1 after breaking our lines a few times. William produced some fantastic saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming any bigger.

As always, the Hawks refused to give up. The boys increased the intensity, moved the ball brilliantly, and some superb passing play allowed Gio to pull one back. We continued to push for an equaliser and came agonisingly close in the closing minutes.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance from every single player. There were so many positives to take from our first pre-season outing, and the commitment, attitude and quality on display were outstanding.

Coach's Player: Fernley – making his first-ever start for the Hawks, he was calm, composed and brought real balance to the back line.

Parents' Player: Riley – an outstanding performance, taking his goal brilliantly and showing exactly the right mentality in midfield.

A big thank you to James Hinde for helping us out today. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Al’s Thoughts.
U12 YMCA Hawks began life as an Under-12 side with an excellent first friendly, narrowly losing to a strong U12 Southgate Blues team in a match full of effort, quality football, and great goals from both sides.
Although the away team came out on top, the Hawks can take huge positives from the performance.
Both teams gave everything throughout, producing a competitive and entertaining game that proved to be a brilliant workout for the boys in their first friendly at U12 level.
The Hawks also welcomed three debutants, Fernley, Alfie, and Jujit, who all settled in well and contributed to a really pleasing team display.
A special mention also goes to James, a regular who helped the team out and played his part in a strong all-round performance.
The coaches were incredibly pleased with the boys’ attitude, work-rate, and quality of play, and it was clear the players enjoyed the challenge too.
There was good football on show across the pitch, with the Hawks showing plenty of promise against a very good Southgate Blues side.
Congratulations to Fernley on a fantastic debut and to Riley for earning today’s awards.
Overall, it was a very pleasing workout, with plenty of encouraging signs and good all-round play from both teams, especially the Hawks.

⚽️ One Set of Footprints Charity Football Tournament 💙

A tough day against teams playing in higher divisions than us, but after the first couple of games the boys really found their rhythm and more than held their own.

So proud of every single one of them—not just for how well they played, but for the fantastic sportsmanship they showed throughout the tournament. A brilliant effort from the whole team! 💙🖤👏
