💙 The Special Olympics GB National Summer Games 2026 is coming to Plymouth!

Really great to meet Alan, Chair of Special Olympics Plymouth and District and the rest of the team, at Harewood House recently and hear about the incredible work being done ahead of the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games 2026.

Plymouth will host the Learning Disability Indoor Bowls Competition this July, the first time the National Games have ever been held this far south, bringing athletes, coaches, volunteers and supporters from across the UK to Plymouth.

It’s a huge moment not just for Plymouth, but for disability sport across Devon and the South West. The passion behind this event is amazing to see.

Alan also told me more about Plymouth Mayflower Specials and the brilliant work they do creating opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to get involved in sport, make friends and build confidence. Wishing Alan and the whole team every success as preparations continue and if you’re interested in seeing the teams in action, the Special Olympics will be running from the 10th –12th July at the Plymouth Life Centre Indoor bowls hall!

Well done to the Plymouth Mayflower Specials football team who finished 3rd in the Devon Ability Counts Football League after the final tournament of the season.
They have been brilliant all season, showing commitment, endeavour and a great team spirit which saw them rewarded with the Respect Trophy.
Many thanks to Tamar Coaches for their invaluable support throughout the season and to the players, parents and support staff for their continued support.

Tonight we have said Goodbye to our fantastic Plymouth University Students until after the summer break.
These wonderful young people have been a mainstay in the success of our club . Their enthusiasm empathy and good humour have been a joy .

Last day at Harewood House Community Cafe.
What an amazing week we have all had !!
Many thanks to Babcock International Group Arco: Experts In Safety and Suz from the Co-op Bank for the fantastic support this week we couldn’t have done it without you .
All our volunteers and athletes who have worked so very hard this week.

Another hugely busy day at Harewood House today with our fantastic team hard at work in the community café and kitchen, serving up delicious sandwiches and homemade cakes to customers old and new. In fact, we almost ran out of cakes today — which says it all! 🍰🥪

A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who give their time, energy and smiles to make days like this possible. Their hard work behind the scenes and front of house is absolutely invaluable.

Most importantly, every penny we raise helps us continue to provide inclusive sports and activities for people with intellectual disabilities, creating opportunities, friendships and confidence within our community.

And finally, thank you to all of our wonderful customers for your continued support. Whether you popped in for a coffee, lunch or a slice of cake, you are helping make a real difference and we truly appreciate every one of you. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported us at Harewood House today. What a spectacularly busy day it has been!

We’ve had a fantastic time serving up delicious sandwiches alongside our fabulously homemade — and now locally famous — cakes, which once again proved incredibly popular.

A very special thank you goes to all of our hardworking volunteers who give their time, energy and smiles so generously. We’re also extremely grateful to our friend Wayne from Babcock International Group for all his help and support today.

And finally, thank you to our incredible customers and supporters who continue to come in, support us, chat with us and make these events so special. Every cup of tea, sandwich and slice of cake helps us continue the work we do in the community.

It’s been another busy and enjoyable day for Plymouth Mayflower Specials at Harewood House in Plympton, running the Community Café.

We’ve sold lots of delicious homemade cakes, with today’s favourites being our Carrot Cake, closely followed by Coffee & Walnut and Lemon Drizzle Cake! ☕🍰

A huge thank you to our fabulous volunteers from Babcock International Group and to our wonderful club member volunteers who do a marvellous job day in, day out. Your hard work, smiles and dedication make such a difference.

Every penny raised helps us continue to provide inclusive sports opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, helping individuals build confidence, friendships and life skills through sport.

We’ll be at Harewood House all week, so why not pop in, say hello, and enjoy a coffee and cake with us!
