Lovely words from one of our regulars!
The team at Meon are always helpful and willing to assist where possible, there’s free tea and coffee on tap and a lovely log burner, or if you want something different there’s everything you’re taste buds desire at the cafe/restaurant.
Great facilities, enjoyable fishing, never overcrowded, lovely spot to pass a day away.

What a wonderful review this week!


I have been a member of the fishing club at Meon Springs for many years and a visit there is always a pleasure, it's my happy place. Now that the water is flowing again after the summer drought and with the fishing now available on all the lakes it's a great place to be. The fishery is well run with a very easy booking system, which we've got used to now, and I particularly like the loyalty card system, it probably boosts more visits.

Best way to test your line so you don’t lose fish

One of the most common (and painful) mistakes anglers make? ''Not checking their tippet or leader.'' Even a fresh-looking spool of 6lb can weaken or rot over time—and you usually only find out after losing a good fish 😬

👉 ''Quick line test you can do at home or on the bank:''
• Cut off 2–3 feet of line
• Tie each end to something solid (Greg uses the finger holes of forceps)
• Hold one in each hand and give it a ''firm tug''—enough to mimic a strike, not a full-on snap

❗ If it breaks easily, try again with 'slightly less pressure'.
If it keeps breaking, even under reduced force, your tippet is done. Time to replace it.

Regular line checks = more landed fish and fewer “the one that got away” stories😉

⚠️ Remember: the breaking strain is exactly what’s printed on the spool.
Put 8lb of pressure on a 3lb leader and it will break—so tug test with common sense.
