Match report - Athena’s

On Saturday we took on FC Hartlepool in our final game of the spring cup.

The girls were struggling to get out of first gear in the first 15 minutes, however were holding their own even though they werent performing to their usual standard.

With chances for both sides FC Hartlepool got the break through from a well worked goal.

The second came shortly after when the girls were caught off guard.

The girls came out second half and were a totally different side, coming out the blocks and really pressing FC Hartlepool. The breakthrough came when Ivy W’s shot was hit off the post and Ivy J dealt with the rebound perfectly ⚽️

The girls kept on the press but with some great saves from FC Hartlepools keeper it kept the score line the same.

Overall in the second half the girls played brilliantly.

Opposition player of the game: India 🏆 for some fantastic saves & communication. India did extremely well to keep the scoreline the same with the relentless press from FC hartlepool in the first half.

Coaches player of the game Ivy J 🏆 some great running, positioning and vision for forward play. Anticipating the initial run to being rewarded with a goal.

Match report - Athena’s
This evening the Athena’s took on a very well established Harton & Westoe side in the Spring Cup, we knew the game was going to be a difficult one.

The game started slow for the Athena’s where they just couldn’t quite get out of first gear, however this was playing into Hartons favour. They kept pressing and pressing making the Athena’s work tirelessly.

The girls lost a bit of structure in the first ten minutes but when they settled they settled well. Harton kept applying pressure but the Athena’s kept them at bay. Jessie worked none stop trying to cover every blade of grass. Defensively we looked strong.

Harton got the break through from some great play from their midfield who then broke into the final third and converted well.

The Athena’s didn’t let their heads go down and a tactical change saw fresh legs and bursts of energy from Willow. To bring us level Willow battled her way through, drive forward and slotted in the right hand corner. ⚽️ Game on.

Defensively Ivy W was solid at the back, being strong and composed and making the correct decisions.

Throughout the game both sides had chances and it was a brilliant competitive game.

However the break through came from Harton, where their winger slipped through crossed in the ball and it took a slight deflection helping it into the back of the net.

The Athena’s ran out of time to find another equaliser but should be very proud of their performance this evening.

It’s great to see all the girls playing their part, any playing confidently whilst gelling as a team.

Oppositions player of the game: Willow 🏆 ran her legs off, used her strength whilst competing for the ball and was a threat going forward, being rewarded with a goal. Well done

Coaches player of the game: Ivy W 🏆 put in a great shift at the back, made some great strong tackles, great decision making, and looked comfortable throughout the game. Well done
