Our last game before the festive break saw another home game, this time Stonehaven were the visitors. With a stiff breeze in our faces in the first half we knew that it would be tough going and so it proved as Stonehaven pinned us back in the early stages. The boys were struggling to make their passes and were not winning the second balls resulting in continual pressure from our opponents. This paid off when they went ahead half way through the half, it was a disappointing goal to lose but a deserved lead for Stonehaven at that time. We did gradually get back into the game but struggled to create any clear cut chances.

After a disappointing first half we gave the boys firm instructions on what was expected in the second. With the wind now on our backs, they made a quick start and were rewarded with a penalty when Alex was fouled in the box. Arran stepped up and expertly dispatched the penalty into the top corner. The second half was then constant Culter pressure with Stonehaven only making brief forays into the Culter half. Several chances went begging before Noah rifled in a great shot giving the GK no chance with about 10 minutes to go. Stonehaven rallied trying for an equaliser but the defence stood firm to end the year with a hard fought victory.

It was cup business for FC Culter last weekend when we hosted Westdyke Thistle in the B league Cup.

Fortunately the rain cleared and the weather improved allowing the game to go ahead. We knew this would be a tough test for our boys against a strong Westdyke team with previous games always being tight affairs.
The early exchanges were very even with no clear cut chances until a good through ball played the striker in behind our defence and he finished well to make it 1-0 to Westdyke. Culter rallied and created a few half chances before a great shot by Miles was tipped round the post by the Westdyke goalkeeper - a really excellent save!
The second half continued in the same vein with chances at a premium. Westdyke scored the killer second goal with about 10 minutes to go, again a really clinical finish giving Igor no chance. Culter didn't give up and Aaron was really unlucky to see a trademark freekick come back of the crossbar but sadly the boys couldn't find their way past a resolute Westdyke defence and the game finished FC Culter 0 Westdyke 2.

The effort of the Culter boys could not be faulted in what was a really tight, well contested match. As always plenty to work on ahead of next weeks match against Stonehaven!

FC Culter 6 v Huntly YFC 0

We met Huntly for the 4th time of the season on a crisp morning in Cults.
The games against Huntly have always been competitive and we told the boys that they needed to be sharp from the first whistle if they wanted to win.

Culter started well but Huntly soon came into the game and forced Culter back and had the best of the early exchanges. The Culter defence held firm and stand in goalkeeper Jayden was sharp to ensure that the score remained goalless. Culter then began to take control and were rewarded by a well worked goal finished by Noah (1-0). Although Culter had a few more chances, they couldn't extend their lead, although it took a great save from the Huntly keeper to keep out a powerful Isaac header.

The second half started as the first one ended with Culter on top, and they were rewarded with a strong run and finish from Jeffery to make it 2-0. A few minutes later we were awarded a free kick after a foul outside the Huntly box, with Aaron poised to come on as a sub we quickly made this change to allow him to take it, he stepped up and did what he does with a cracking free kick giving the keeper no chance (3-0). Noah was reintroduced after that and quickly made his mark with two quick goals bringing up his hat trick (5-0), well done Noah!! Alex then continued his great goal scoring form with an excellent finish to make the final score FC Culter 6 Huntly 0.

A really good team performance with a strong defence along with good attacking play giving us the deserved win.
Thanks to Huntly for travelling down (again!) and good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Next up a home game against Westdyke Thistle in the B league Cup!

FC Culter 5 v Huntly Youth FC1

A bright but cold day in Cults as we welcomed Huntly for our 1st round B league cup match.
It was a strong start from Culter and this was rewarded with a strong run and finish from Isaac (1-0). Huntly let our boys know they were in for a game and came back strongly with an excellent piece of play resulted in the equaliser (1-1). Culter then started to dictate play and deservedly went back in front after a good finish from Clarke shortly before half time (2-1).

The second half started at a frantic place with chances at both ends, however once again Culter started to control the game and Alex finished well to extend our lead (3-1).Clarke then got his 2nd of the game with an excellent finish to make it 4-1. Alex finished the scoring with another well taken goal to make the final score
FC Culter 5 Huntly 1.

A deserved win for the boys which sees us progress to the next round of the cup.
Keep it up Culter!!

FC Culter 2013 v Deveronvale 2013

Apologies for the lateness, admin was away so was awaiting a match report!
A blustery Cults Academy was the setting for FC Culter's second home game of the season. It was a strong start from the visitors with an early goal giving them the lead. Aaron H scored a cracking free kick to draw things level before two quick Deveronvale goals put them 3-1 up. Arran M pulled one back towards the end of the half to to make the half time score 3-2 Deveronvale.

The boys were playing well and with the wind in their favour in the second half, a hat trick from captain Isaac gave the boys the win their play deserved.

Another great game played in the right spirit and we wish Deveronvale all the best for the remainder of the season.

Next up is Scottish Cup with a tricky draw away to Dyce on Sunday 14th September.

FC Culter 2013 v Meldrum Youth 2013

Sunday saw the team's first competitive league match at 11 a side against a strong Meldrum team.

A slow start from Culter saw Meldrum have the bulk of the play in the opening minutes, but as the first half continued they grew into the game and gave as good as they got with both teams having chances to open the scoring. A very even first half ended with a retaken Meldrum free kick fired high into the net giving Aaron in goals no chance.

A quick goal early in the 2nd half doubled Meldrum's advantage, however the Culter boys kept fighting and forced the Meldrum keeper into a number of good saves. Unfortunately it wasn't our day in front of goal and two more late Meldrum goals meant the game finished FC Culter 0 Meldrum 4.

It seemed a harsh score line for the boys who gave so much in the game and on another day may have come away with more. As the coaches said after the game, if we get that level of effort and commitment every week then we will have a great season.

Credit to Meldrum who played well and scored some great goals and we wish them well for the rest of the season (or at least until we play them again!!).
