Has anyone else thought about how and culture have contributed to making symptoms worse? I never thought about this before until lately.

Today I was approached by a childhood friend about him possibly having ADHD, it really struck me and made me think.

When you're South Asian and desi growing up in the UK there's multiple barriers such as masking our struggles & being unaware about harnessing our strengths, racism in schools & society, intergenergational trauma, partition and much more whilst growing up.

You're not believed when you're struggling & your 'behaviors' are getting mixed up with your symptoms especially when your hormones are changing along with your brain.

When I realised I had it following my diagnosis', I could see neurodivergent patterns in people more clearer as I had an understanding of what & are.

We are unique and we belong , with or without a diagnosis. Too many of us were left behind in the education system. Now's the time for change!

The number 1 safe place for me to visit as an Muslim is the mosque. With my Lived experience, I've travelled across the world & experienced the same feeling, its difficult to put into words (especially when there's quiet times & not busy). I'd recommend visiting one when you can.

A person with ADHD/ Autism may be direct, over-explain or come at the discussion from a different angle. Their tone, facial expressions may not match their word at times. This does not mean they're a bad person as one mood being expressed could reflect many underlying causes.

If a neurodivergent person becomes quiet, stops becoming who they are, then there may be a chance they're internalising and they could get burnt out as their experience of reality is not being believed as a person by those around them at home, friendships or at work.

This is where they may go into fight, flight, freeze or fawn (keep the peace) mode. Eventually the stress starts to build up cortisol in the body. From childhood this pattern can emerge and lead to long term illness, relational challenges, mental health difficulties & confidence issues.

It's not always about communication, it's comprehension that matters the most.
Let's break these cycles.
