Huge congratulations to M on achieving her BCAB Paddlesport Leader qualification yesterday. She kept busy with a full group of kayaks, canoes and SUPs and some funky weather, including an epic thunderstorm.
Plenty of wildlife about too! Otter poo and tracks, Oystercatchers, Ringed Plover and an Osprey display.

Great to have some of the Paddle Scotland Young Ambassadors for an Introduction to Paddle-ability at the weekend.
Lots of great ideas, curiosity and enthusiam to help more people enjoy paddlesports.
You'll catch some of them at Scottish Disability Sport Wheels to Water event later this month!

Weekend reminder to support your local paddleports shops!

I've been enjoying a demo of the Pyranha Kayaks Ripper2 recently on demo from Edinburgh Watersports Shop.

No amount of manufacturer specs, opinions on the internet and what someone in a lay by who's roughly your height says can replace actually sitting in a boat and even better paddling it. You won't find out that on your body, that best selling BA is too long to sit comfortably when you're sat in a boat either!

Plus the expertise and advice you get when you pop into somewhere like Sea Kayak Oban where the staff are active high level paddlers rather than just sellers is gold!

🛶Canoeist needed!
2nd June.
Meeting at: Grandtully Station Campsite

I'm looking for a canoeist or 2 to be part of a group for a Paddlesport Leader assessment on 2nd June.

We'll be on slow moving rivers and open water in breezy F3 so you should have some paddling experience already.
But still benefit from being part of a led group to help you explore somewhere new, feel safe, have fun and pick up some hints and tips.

You'll have access to a suitable boat + kit + transport.

If this is you, please get in touch!
If it's not you, please tell someone else to get in touch!

Nailed it!
That moment when you shift from "getting down things" to "paddling with purpose" is brilliant.
There's lots going on to get there.
🖐🏾Technical ability - doing the most helpful stuff at the most helpful time with your boat, paddle and body.
🔍Tactical awareness - picking a line, using the water to help, planning and re- planning
🧠 Psycological wrangling - getting your brain around excitement, nerves, ego, arousal, confidence and SO many sensory inputs.
🫀Physical work - effective paddling, high / low intensity effort, holding body tension.

There's a whole lot of things that link up to create the magic moments where it all just...flows ☺️

Happily, it doesn't have to be left up to chance!
Call it practise, training or our favourite, play.
Getting out there, doing it well and sometimes doing it badly (within reason), with some outside eyes to steer you and some feedback to influence how you play next massively stacks the odds towards more time enjoying that flow feeling.

Check out the course diary or get in touch if you're ready to ditch fighting for flowing this summer.

We love a canoe exped. And want everyone else to love them too!

But we know it's pretty scary at first.

Do I choose a tent, tarp or hammock? Will I be warm enough? How to keep stuff properly dry? What food will be quick AND tasty? How will my boat handle? Is it miserable if it rains? Am I a even a good enough paddler for this? How do I pack? What if I need to portage? What is portage?

That's why Elizabeth Wallis - Outdoor Activities and us have teamed up for an intro to camping in canoes on the Spey in July.

2 days, 1 night.
Wild camping on the river bank.
We'll sort a tasty filling dinner and plenty of proper tea and coffee. You bring your breakfast and lunch.
Canoeing kit and camping kit available.
And with 2 advanced leaders there's plenty of chance to hone your canoeing skills too!
