Heartbreak for the Brig in Blair
Blair 4-3 Brig
Scorers for Brig: Storrar x2, Mitchell
Left the Brig with a squad of 14, 2 call offs and a no show left us with the bare 11 against a 15 man Blair squad.
The boys started the brightest, creating several chances before going in front after 20 mins. A good passage of play down the right eventually led to the ball being cut back across where Bloomer's attempted effort eventually found Storrar at the back post to convert from a few yards. The Brig continued to dominate and were playing some of the best football we've seen since forming the team. Another great passing move led to Mitchell finding space on the edge of the box, who took his time before finding the bottom left hand corner, 2-0 with 30 minutes on the clock.
Blair made a number of subs during the closing stages of the half and started to apply a bit more pressure, with a few long range efforts, before finally pulling one back after some panic stations defending from the Brig who were needing the half time whistle.
Half time 1-2
The second half was a bit more even with chances coming at either end. It was the Brig who capitalised when Storrar found himself up the pitch and smashed the ball from the right edge of the box past the goalkeeper.
At 3-1, the boys continued to knock the ball around and create chances to put the game to bed. With no subs, the fitness started to take it's toll, with more gaps appearing across the pitch for Blair to exploit. Blair pulled a goal back with 15 to go
On 80 minutes, Brig went down to 10 men due to an injury, making life even more difficult for those on the pitch. Blair went on to equaliser with only a few minutes on the clock.
Having been cruising for most of the game, being pulled level was a bitter blow, so the Brig put numbers forward in the hope of a late winner, which almost game when Angus found himself through on goal, round the keeper, but a great challenge kept him out. With what should have been the last chances of the game, Brig had consecutive corners, the second of which was cleared up the pitch. With legs beyond gone at this point, Blair managed to get numbers forward and after an attempted clearance found a man on the edge of the box, who curled home to break Brig hearts. The ref adding additional stoppage time in a friendly where a team has a bare 11 and had to go down to 10 due to injury was an absolute joke...he was told that in no uncertain terms.
Every man on the pitch gave their all and if we'd even had a couple of subs to keep rotating things, we'd have come away with a comfortable victory last night.
Thanks to Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Club Over 35’s for the game and well done for keeping going and the win.
