Belles on Bikes Tayside

Belles on Bikes Tayside Belles on Bikes is a social cycling group for women in Tayside... all ages and abilities welcome! Some frequently asked questions...

How do I join?

The Tayside Belles started in April 2015 with volunteer ride leaders running regular social rides for women in the Tayside area. We are now running the group through Spond, see below, including advertising and signing up for rides. New ladies are welcome to come along to any of our rides provided you have a roadworthy bike. You can now officially join the group by following this link

We manage member's contact details through Spond. It allows us to be GDPR compliant and also to manage communications. We charge a Β£3 membership fee for the year, collected via Spond. This is to cover our Group Insurance and any left overs are used for spare inner tubes etc. What do I need to bring? All you need to join a ride is a roadworthy bike. If you have not been out on your bike for a while then it is definitely worth pumping up the tires and giving it a quick check over the day before. We usually have a coffee stop so money for coffee or lunch is good. I have not been on my bike for a while … will I keep up? Our rides are social rides not races. We usually average 10mph on our rides. If you are comfortable riding a bike and are reasonably fit and healthy then you will be fine. If you are not very confident then you may wish to come along to one of our shorter rides in the first instance to see how you feel. Are there any other women's cycle groups in the area? Yes, there is growing interest in women's cycle groups and there are a number within the Tayside area. Fife Belles (www.facebook.com/bellesonbikesfife) are based in the south of Fife but run rides across Fife. Ladies Leisurely Cyclists are based in Forfar/Kirrimuir and their sister group Arbroath Cycling Ladies can be found on Facebook. The Dundee Bike Club is another local group which can be found on Facebook. It is open to both men and women and they also run family rides. If you have any other questions or queries please feel free to post to the page or send a private message. Belles on Bikes Tayside is part of the 'Belles on Bikes' network of women's cycling groups developed and supported by CTC, the National Cycling Charity. The development of Belles on Bikes is currently funded through CTC by Cycling Scotland and 2014 Communities. Belles on Bikes aims to support women to get cycling together in a friendly, relaxed and inclusive environment.

The Tayside Belles started in April 2015 with volunteer ride leaders running regular social rides for women in the Tayside area. We are now running the group through Spond - see below for the sign up form link. So the advertising and signing up for all rides is on Spond and not here on Facebook.

How do I join?
New ladies are welcome to come along to any of our rides provided you have a roadworthy bike. Note all our rides are on the roads so mountain bikes are unlikely to be suitable unless you have slick tyres.
You can join by completing the form at this link https://club.spond.com/landing/signup/bellesbiketays
We charge a small fee each year to regular riders - but this is just to cover our affiliation/insurance fee with Cycling UK.

How fast are the rides?
Our rides are social rides not races - however we usually split into three groups - the fastest group go around 14-15mph, the slow group around 10-11mph and the middle group somewhere in between. So if you are comfortable riding a bike and reasonably fit you will be fine. If you are not very confident you can always try one of our shorter rides first to see how you get on.

What do I need to bring?
All you need to join is a roadworthy bike. If you have not been out on it for a while definitely make sure that it is working properly - the brakes are working and the tires properly pumped up. We usually have a coffee shop stop so money for the cafe is a good idea too!

Fun and games today for 8 hardy Belles. The Met Office rainfall radar proved to be pretty accurate. We set off dry and even had some sunshine, with rain only arriving just before noon. Fab food stop at Strathmore Golf Centre. However we heard news from the waiting staff that the road back across the valley was closed by flooding. Sure enough it was. So we had a bit of a detour via the cycle track to Blairgowrie. Total miles 35! Thanks to everyone for great company!

13 tough lassies headed off up the road towards Chapelhill in weather that had just decided to turn less than ideal. But it perked up a bit (the rain stopped) and everyone got to Chapelhill with smiles on. Team 2 rendezvoused with Team 1 at The Tickled Trout for smashing bacon rolls.
Then back to Battleby via the cycle path. Well done ladies!

Blizzard n Belles

Seven intrepid Belles set off for a ride round Angus on a day of contrasting weather 🌬 β˜ƒοΈ β˜€οΈ, and in my case contrasting bikes, after the first one punctured on leaving Dobbies car park πŸ™„

A weather revised route though Wellbank, Monikie to Panmure Estate with a lovely tailwindπŸ‘ then back along the cycle track with a not so lovely headwind πŸ‘Žbut β˜€οΈ

Ending back at Dobbies for a welcome lunch, chat and thawing out 😁

A brilliant day with 25 Belles enjoying the Perthshire autumn countryside. CafΓ© stop was at the Walkin'cafe in Spittalfield which opened specially for us. Rave reviews, the scones were voted the best this year! Thanks to all the leaders who took a group.
