Vintage Bellyboards

I came across this cool little piece of Bellyboard history. A Polzeath postcard dated 1979. As you can see there are 3 Bellyboards in the bottom right corner, I can’t quite make out the brand though. Any ideas??

ORIGINAL CARDBOARD PACKAGING!!
Yes that’s right, 3 of my 6 1950’s Kon Tiki Waveriders are in their original packaging, how cool is that!!!

Made by a company called Solarbo Ltd based in West Lancing, Sussex, UK. These boards are made from super thin ply, covered in balsa wood. They are just under 4 foot by 1 foot wide and are almost an inch deep. They are also super light!

The label on the front says they bring surf riding to every beach and they’re unsinkable!. Just brilliant!

Solarbo created boards from the 1950’s and were a company who processed and produced balsa wood for all sorts of things including toy models.

I feel very lucky to own these beautiful boards and are my personal favourite.

Visited Tris at Krog Den Surf Shop in Hayle. Had a rummage and found these two lovely boards. The bigger of the two is a Crest Wavemaster.
