Oxford BSAC Scuba Diving Club Friendly diving club with own hardboat, regular dives, fortnightly indoor pool hire, and discounted air fills. Come diving with us!

This is the Oxford BSAC page (we also have a Facebook Group). We are now a mature club with a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Writing in early 2011, the branch has around 90 members from the Oxford area stretching from Bicester in the North to Didcot in the South and from Witney in the West to Aylesbury in the East. We even have some members who live here during the week and go home at weekends. We cover a good cross-section of Oxford society. Ages range from young children who snorkel to pensioners who dive. Of the membership, over half are active divers. We have around a dozen snorkelling members and twenty or so social members. The activites of the branch centre around three areas, the clubhouse, pool training and diving. We also carry a decent level of equipment and diving boats - all of which help to make us a successful dive club which has been going for over 50 years. Run entirely by volunteers, we train and develop our own divers, both in diving and associated skills. We also try to help in our community wherever possible and have taken part in free open days, offered boat cover during regattas and hold talks in our clubhouse. We are always happy to recruit new members, be they untrained novices, experienced divers or instructors - all are welcome no matter who they have trained with. You will be made very welcome, so please enquire about joining Oxford BSAC.

It’s a wrap on another fabulous weekend.

The stupendous conditions in Plymouth continued. Tides were ideal for SS Maine just off Bolt Head. This 1917 torpedo victim is one of the best sports diver wrecks in the country with intact holds and bow and stern sections standing 10m high. She did not disappoint with 15m vis and we took full advantage doing it twice.

We also hit perfect slack water on the 19th century sailing ship Oregon in similar cracking vis. Think these two definitely have the rust fever……doing 90 minute dives (ropes off @6) to catch the perfect tide.

Superb diving with all who came this weekend.

We dived the Marie, a 19th century three masted iron sailing ship. We then moved on to HMS untiring which is a British Sub from the 1950s. Next up was the Oregon which is another turn of the century sailing ship. Fast becoming a club favourite this seems to benefit from stunning visibility on a routine basis.

Today we dived the Australbush an Australian cargo ship sunk in 1917. The propeller and the rudder pins were in situ and at points the wreck stood ten metres tall. These deeper wrecks were tough to find and shot. Cannot recommend .eu enough.

Huge thanks to Nart for his superb shotting and in the case of the untiring pulling a sixty metre shot and reshotting. The lazy shot system worked really really well at keeping all deco’ing divers together. Last up was a wash up dive on the JEL so we could go and see the ammo cases.
