Oswestry Badminton Club was welcoming to a surprise visitor at club night last night.
Aidan Short (Captain of Shropshire 2nd team) visited OBC for some games and to promote the Shropshire League Doubles Tournament he is organising in June.
Aidan enjoyed some competitive games and hopes to see some faces from OBC at the tournament.

It was a pleasure for Oswestry Men's to play a friendly against the youth of Concord College on Sunday.
Having played each other in Shropshire's division 2 over the last few years we've enjoyed the close competitive games. And while a friendly, Sunday was no different.
Thanks to the college for their hospitality. We look forward to playing them in a Pre Season friendly after the summer.

Just a reminder to any potential new members that might be thinking of attending..... Oswestry Leisure Centre is closed on Bank Holidays, so there is no club night on Easter Monday (or any other Bank Holiday Monday)
But we are back a week on Monday to help burn off the Easter Egg calories! 😆

MATCH REPORT: Telford C vs Oswestry Mens A

Men’s A team swapped their usual Friday night debauchery for their penultimate match of the season against Telford C.

Matt & Paolo started strongly against their No.2 pairing,, winning the first set 17-21 but lost the second 21-15, before taking the third 14-21.
While Craig & Keith did it the other way round against Telford’s No.1 pairing, losing the first set 21-13. A change in racket by Craig and a change in play, they won the second set 18-21, and the third 14-21.

Craig and Keith continued their winning run, beating Telford’s No. 2 pairing in straight sets 20-22, 12-21.
With Oswestry 3-0 up, Matt and Paolo lost to Telford’s No.1 pairing in a close 2 setter, 19-21,19-21.
At 1-3, Telford could only draw the match in the split.

First up was Matt & Craig, losing the first set 12-21, before getting their act together and winning the second 15-21. The final set was a close win for Oswestry at 20-22, to take the match to a 1-4 lead.
And a good job, as Paolo and Keith lost their split in 3 sets, 21-10, 11-21,21-19!
With Oswestry winning 4-2, the match could have been 6-0 or 4-2 either way or a 3-3 draw with only 10 points between the 2 sides.

Not only is it a club night, but we're hosting a league match between our Men's B team and Oakengates.

MATCH REPORT:
Oswestry Badminton club hasn’t fielded a lady’s team in the Shropshire badminton league for a few seasons now. But spearheaded by Amber and her desire to play matches, saw a ladies team travel to Shrewsbury to play a friendly against Shrewsbury’s ladies.
It was a closely fought contest. With Shrewsbury’s No.1 pairing beating Oswestry’s No.2 pairing of Linda and Amber (21-17, 21-10). In the reverse fixture, Oswestry’s No.1 pairing of Valerie and Sophie beat Shrewsbury’s second pairing in straight sets (21-18, 21-17).
In the No.1 pairs fixture. Shrewsbury won the first set, 21-15. While Val and Sophie dominated the 2nd set, winning 21-7 to take the game to a decider, and winning the 3rd set 21-16.
With Oswestry 2-1 up, Shrewsbury’s No.2 pairing were too strong for Linda and Amber, beating them 21-15,21-5.
With the match level at 2 sets each, it was all to be decided in the split.
Shrewsbury ladies powered their way to take the first split, beating Valerie and Linda 21-9, 21-17.
So it was down to Sophie and Amber (who has only really been playing 12 months). The pairing holding strong and winning a tough contest 21-18, 21-17 to draw the match 3-3.
While a friendly it was a very competitively played and fantastic result for the ladies first match. Shrewsbury are already looking for dates to play a return fixture at Oswestry.
Hopefully, other clubs will take up the opportunity to play our ladies in friendlies this season, giving them more match experience before entering a team in the league next season.

MATCH REPORT: Oswestry Mens A vs Shrewsbury A
Last night there was a convincing 6-0 win against a weaker Shrewsbury side with only one set dropped, with Paolo and Keith taken to 3 sets in the split.
A good performance all round.
