I have been asked for answers to the Local Rules Quiz
The blue stakes on the 17th, according to the card, mark an area from which relief should be taken to a dropping zone.....but they mark the dropping zone in error. Almost nobody knows what they are for anyway
As the short game area is not marked as outside the course boundary at present, no play on should be permitted before or during a competition round, but this is ignored generally
It is unclear whether the main practice field is marked as Out of Bounds, but i think most people believe it is
The local Rules say a ball striking the 15th flagstick must be replayed ........ not sure why...unless it transmits electricity.
Rules of Golf say that relief must be taken from a "wrong" green, but there is concern that could lead to damage due to people chipping from the fringes of greens..Most people woudl be sensible about this, I hope.
The Rules of Golf App has a Rules quiz.....my first attempt gave me only 10 out of 18 ......must do better.

Dear Member

Sunday 1st January 2023, the beginning of our golfing year in Retford.

To start off the New Year in style come and join the Captains and Vice Captains for a hearty cooked breakfast before they ceremoniously drive off on the first tee.

The drive off is at 11.00 a.m.

Breakfasts will start from 9.30 a.m.

In order to get everyone fed in time, you are invited to order and pay for breakfast in advance. The cost is £7 to include tea or coffee.

To order your breakfast please see the bar staff and put your name down. Please pay on ordering, you will then be allocated a time slot.

If you wish to play after the drive off then book your tee times as usual on the electronic booking system.

Also please remember to enter the draw for the charity parking space and guess the length of the Captain’s drive. Have a guess, all funds go to a great cause! Our chosen charities will be Western Park Cancer Charity and Breast Cancer Now.

Happy Christmas everyone and very best wishes for 2023.

Kind regards.

Dave Halford (Retford Golf Captain 2023)
Anna Avery (Lady Captain 2023)
