⚽ MATCH UPDATE | MFFL GAME WEEK 1
OLDBURY LIONS 2–4 SUTTON UNITED FF
We held off posting our usual match result while the MFFL Administration team reviewed a player eligibility concern raised following Sunday’s fixture.
For transparency, the concern wasn’t based on one person’s opinion. Multiple Oldbury Lions players independently raised the same issue with our management team on the day, and we also received information regarding the player’s reported use of weight gain products in order to meet the BMI criteria.
Along with opposition players coming into our changing room pre game and asking if we were the Sutton team 👀.
Given that the BMI eligibility criteria and player cards were introduced and agreed as part of the league’s rules this season, we felt it was only right to raise the concern and provide the evidence available to us.
While we appreciate lads can lose weight and go through the MVF ethos to be under the 27.5 BMI , the players BMI card didn’t mirror his matchday appearance.
The league has now completed its investigation and confirmed that the player meets the eligibility criteria, with the 2–4 result standing.
We obviously have our own views on the outcome, but we’ll leave it there and move forward.
✍🏻 One thing this has certainly given us is a new approach to recruitment…
For context, Sutton United FF were a side we beat 10–1 late last year.
Since then, we’ve watched them grow and rise within 6-8 months from a relegation fighting dev side to the Shield champions and premier title contenders..
As we look to strengthen for the season ahead, we have got a new transfer target list in.
No point making it hard for ourselves. 👀😂
If that’s the benchmark, we’ll build accordingly.
We now look ahead to Stoke for our next MFFL fixture.. 💪🏻
