LWFC Boys U13 v SJR PINK U13

We travelled back to familiar turf to play an even familiar team… And what a game it turned out to be…

A nervous start that we managed to settle into but unfortunately saw us concede in the first 15 minutes but the girls were told to keep their heads high and get stuck in which saw us pick up a free kick 20 yards out, Pippa stepped up, picked her spot and 2 keepers wasn’t stopping it to level the score… 💪

Against the wind with the sun in our face was always going to be tough but every girl battled and battled which saw Matilda put us in front a few minutes later.

The lead was short lived when the home team scored just before half time but coming in at the break level was nothing more than the girls deserved… 👊

Quick pep talk and we sent the girls back out with nothing but to keep doing exactly the same with a little more scanning to keep track of the opposition…

Both creating chances but neither team managing to convert it into a winner so it ended in a draw… Considering the last time we played each other it was either 7-0 or 7-1…. 🤔 this is a massive step in the right direction and we all should be really proud of ourselves…

Take gender away this was a great game of football to watch and one that could’ve gone either way… I am bias and will say we deserved it but I really think we did today…. We looked hungry and wanted it and chased everything down whether in attack or defense…

But we take what wins we can get and that was the penalty shootout at the end…. WELL DONE GIRLS YOU SMASHED IT!! (And we did it without our top goal scorer…. 😜)

Parents GOTG today and the parents know their stuff as the names with most of the votes were definately on my list however it was Maya topping the list and throughly deserved as she battled and battled and battled without coming second best once 👊

Tuesday training night…

Small group tonight which left little recovery time between drills and every girl smashed the session…. I doubt the girls could’ve given any more tonight, completing the drills really well…

Still trainer of the night was up for grabs and any of the girls could have got it for spells through the session but it was Matilda again rising to the top of the group with great footwork and workrate all session…

As the new season is about to begin I would like to thank all of sponsors from last season…

Running a football team really would be a struggle/ almost impossible without you!

We were a new team thrown together in May 2026, a couple of social media posts looking for players and the team was formed…. As a new team we were to be put in the 4th division of the Sheffield league but all of the coaching team and parents backed you as a team able to compete at a higher level…. And I think it’s safe to say you’ve repaid us all with a great season.

A very respectable 4th place finish in our first season together along with an incredible tournament season has only been possible through the hard work put in by all the girls in training week in and week out…

Super Sunday again and some of our girls were strutting their stuff in games and Tournaments..

I manage to catch a few of our newest member Maltida’s games in a tournament where she looked sharp both assisting goals and scoring herself… her team narrowly missing out on the trophy after losing the penalty shootout… well done Matilda 👏

Fortunately at the same tournament Alicia and Poppy were on display and playing in a boys group… this was always going to be a tough ask ….. for the boys that is….. 💪 👊
Poppy and Alicia’s team didn’t concede all tournament and was arguably the better team in most of the games…. Again though penalties deciding the winner and despite all shots on target the girls came runners up after 2 worldie saves from their keeper… 👏
However Alicia got Coaches player of the tournament for being a rock at the back where I don’t think I saw her come away second best all day 💪

Poppy not to be outdone by her mate put in an equal shift coming away with parents player and I must say this was the most composed I’ve seen Poppy on the ball with link up passing to match 👊

SJR girls travelled down to Keyworth today to play Keyworth Cobras/ Keyworth Shooting stars to find out we are playing Athena’s JPL…

Sneaky but I’ll back my girls any day of the week and twice on Saturdays… Missing 2 big players today due to holidays but still with lots of quality in the ranks I knew we had enough for a game against most teams 💪

We started the game arguably the best I’ve seen with the passing on display the stuff we dream about… shortly after this Kyla with some great strength and a ball through to match found Matilda who shown great composure in front of goal to slot it home with a great finish 👏

I think we were the better team in the first half however we came in at the break all square… brief to the girls where we were losing the game and to up the tempo in certain areas and back out they went…

Second half came and we were chasing the ball too much allowing the opposition to dictate the play too often which allowed them to score a couple of really well taken goals.

Despite the scoreline where the main difference was the opposition finished their chances it was a good game and I’m happy with how the girls played, this is why we play pre season friendlies to get the final tweeks right in training ready for the season start next week 😛

Parents player today went to Matilda after only her second game for us and deservedly so, great work ethic all game and a great composed finish for her first goal for the team 💪 …. 👏 👏 (Matilda had to shoot early today so no photo but I’m sure with performances like today it won’t be long before we will be posting again… Well done Matilda 👏)

Coaches player could’ve gone to a few… half time I was calling Kyla and Ruby for great work rate, strength and link play to get down the field… 2nd half Poppy and Macie dealt with arguably their best player well but I went with Kyla…. Her strength and determination was great today and balls out wide really helped us get up the field… well done Kyla 👏

Midweek Friendly with our extended football family….. ⚽️

We started well getting an early goal and then we seem to go to pot waiting for the ball and not moving enough off the ball… this allowed the Home team to get back into the game and get an equaliser just before half time…

A re brief for us to start playing again the way we started the first 15 minutes and the girls went back out on a mission…. The passing today was great using our wide players and with midfield and the forwards linking well where we seemed to get up the field really quick…

I could name all girls for elements today, but a few stuck out for me…

Alicia in goal was quick off the line to catch/ kick and play the ball back out with confidence….

Poppy Pippa and Lacie recovered well when needed with half of the goals being assisted from the back line… A hattrick of assists for Pippa 👏

Rhemi and Kyla I thought was strong in possession and played with confidence on the ball.

Macie, Maya and Ruby all had spells of brilliance passing and moving with all recovering well to defend the big kicks of the keeper!

Freya was just unstoppable infront of goal today bagging a double hattrick 👏

GOTG today could have easily gone to a few with Freya getting a share of the Parents vote but in her words “coaches player means more” 😜 so who are we to argue so well done Foz, Coaches player it is 👊 and very well deserved 👏 💪
