🏁 Tough Final for Riley 🏁

Starting 28th out of 34 at the South West Kart Championships, Riley’s final was an uphill battle from the first turn. A 360-degree spin on corner one dropped him to the back of the pack, but he quickly regrouped and hunted down the field, climbing to 30th by lap three.
He held his nerve and executed a patient race plan, however, chaos struck again at the very same corner. Forced wide to avoid a multi-kart collision, Riley lost all grip and slid side-on straight into the barrier.

With a bent axle ending his race, Riley limped the kart to a safe marshal zone. As he stepped out, sharp pains in his lower back triggered a call to the paramedics. Thankfully, after a thorough check-over, he was given the clear with no broken bones—just deep bruising to his sacrum and coccyx.
Despite the bruising and finishing 30th, the weekend held major positives: Riley raced hard against elite drivers on F1-grade tarmac, clocked a brand new PB, and officially broke into the 47-second lap zone on a track he had never raced at.

Today's session at Paddock Performance Therapy was all about stimulating the healing process, reducing deep tissue pressure, and giving the body the room it needs to embrace its natural recovery.
The focus is now locked on a fast, smart recovery because the clock is ticking. We go again in 2 weeks at the Southern Championships at Forest Edge Kart Club! 🌲🏎️

Sorry for the late update, but it’s been a busy one! 🏁

It was very exciting to see the kart arrive with the official red and white #45, rather than the novice black and white numbers.

First practice was all about putting the track walk and advice into practice. Riley was around 6 seconds off the pace, but with some of the British Championship boys in attendance, the focus was very much on learning this new track and building confidence.

After second practice, and a rather unfortunate argument with a barrier 😬, it was clear Riley was struggling with the kart setup. The gear ratio and brakes were changed ready for the first timed practice of the afternoon, and the improvements were immediate.

By the end of the second timed practice, Riley was just 2.5 seconds off the quickest lap and gaining confidence with every session.

Qualifying saw him getting faster and setting PBs lap after lap. Unfortunately, on the final lap, a mechanical issue with the kart in front forced Riley into an unfortunate swerve and costing us a corker of a lap up until that point. Despite that, he finished with a PB of 48.06, with the fastest lap now only 1.8 seconds ahead.

It’s all to play for tomorrow! 💪🏁 Riley is gaining confidence every time he gets in the kart, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what tomorrow brings.

Bring it on — South West Championships! 🟠 ⚫️

Absolutely loving this fast track and the opportunity to race on F1-grade tarmac!🏎️💨

We have arrived at Dunkeswell Kart Club and we are settling in for the night ready for Riley’s first South West Championship 😳

Totally new set up to what we are used to. Saturday, Riley has 2 free practices, 2 timed practices and then a timed qualifying. Sunday is full of heats and finals.

Thank you Paddock Performance Therapy and BKC Racing for supporting the journey.

Lets see what we can do now the novice plates are off and Riley starts on main grid!

**Forest Edge Kart Club Championship – Round 4 🏁**

What a weekend!

My 4th race weekend in the Junior Rotax Maxi class, and it certainly wasn't an easy one. Racing in the heat wave was tough enough, but a snapped chain and damaged radiator in Heat 1 put me on the back foot straight away.

Despite that, I kept digging deep all weekend. The kart felt good and the pace was really encouraging too, with consistent lap times and a best lap time just **one second off the winner's pace** in a grid of **20 drivers**.

**Results:**
🏁 Heat 1 – Started 20th, Finished 18th (was running at 12th when the chain snapped & damaged the radiator)
🏁 Heat 2 – Started 19th, Finished 15th
🏁 Heat 3 – Started 20th, Finished 12th
🏁 Final – Started 18th, Finished 14th

This meant I won the Best Junior Rotax. This has meant that I’ve climbed from **24th to 18th overall** in the championship after just four race weekends in the class, my confidence and consistency are improving every time.

A huge thank you to everyone at Team BKC Racing for all the help, support and encouragement throughout the weekend. It really does make a difference.

Now... bring on the next one. I can't wait to get back in the kart! 💪🏎️🔥

Race weekend summary 🏁

Not quite the weekend we were hoping for, and a real wake-up call on just how brutal Junior Rotax racing can be. Starting from the back on a novice licence, Riley did a great job working his way through some very busy traffic with 27 karts on track.

Heat 1 - ended early after an incident ahead left him with nowhere to go, resulting in a bent steering column and an ulnar nerve compression in his elbow from elbowing his engine!

Heat 2 - was even tougher—another driver went for a move that wasn’t on, causing a 4-kart pile up and leaving us with a bent axle and a smashed up GoPro. Red flag, 🚩 and despite an incredible effort from our mechanic to get us back out in under 10 minutes, it just wasn’t meant to be. DNS

Heat 3 was all about resetting, and Riley delivered—regaining focus and gaining 4 places 💪

FINAL - he started from the back, he was flying and showing real confidence, moving up to 17th before a small mistake on a tricky corner put him onto the grass, finishing 20th out of 27. The positives from this run were some phenomenal overtakes and yet another PB.

Racing is brutal—emotionally, physically, and financially—but it’s all part of the learning curve and we will take every curve as it’s thrown at us. We take the rough with the smooth… and we go again (once the bank balance recovers 😅)

VIDEO is of the final and Riley doing some awesome overtakes.
