Great news!!
Thorplands club 81 Stags will have a fresh look and a new name on its shirts for the 26/27 season. Thank you to the Deers Leap pub who will be sponsoring us. Having been supporting them since the new year, we will continue to do so. Both the Stags and Stags development sides will be venturing back to our new home after games.
For those who haven’t been to the Deer’s Leap in a while, the pub is a very friendly atmosphere, lots going on with events most evenings, darts teams etc. Coming soon they will be offering a new food menu. An ideal venue for meetings, evenings out.
We are looking forward to supporting them as we go on, and of course the logo is very fitting with our club badge!!

Nene Sunday League

Thorplands Club 81 Stags 3-1 Sixfields Rangers B

The stags were at the fortress of trees looking to continue their unbeaten run against a solid Sixfields Rangers side. Jack Spencer stepped in as interim manager and hoping to keep his unbeaten streak going also.

The stags looked off the ball for the first 5 mins and needed to get control of the game, this quickly changed when the chances started coming in from Favour Chika on the right but no goal to come. A family emergency had us lose a centre back and a quick defensive change was needed. Dave dimmer dribbled through the box until taken down for what was probably a fairly soft penalty in Sunday league but they all count! Mark Pittam stepped up to continue his penalty streak and did not disappoint, 1-0. The stags kept pushing until the half with many chances and could’ve been 2 or 3 up. Some words exchanged with the boys at half time and back out with the same team, 5 minutes in and the first change came with Jessie Pepple replacing goalscorer Mark Pittam. The stags still looked in control, with players eager to get on and a push of energy needed for that extra goal, two more changes were made 5 minutes after. Then a simple ball through to their striker and a dribble through defence left us at 1-1, time to switch on. 10 minutes later the changes paid off from Jayden Clifton lofting a ball down the wing to reach Favour Chika who found Jessie Pepple in the middle to make it 2-1. Stags were back in control and were pounding on the Sixfields Rangers door waiting for another goal, shot off the woodwork and balls across the goal not finding their way in. Last couple minutes and Dave Dimmer gathers the ball after a scramble of shots and rebounds in the box and turns and fires one in to win it 3-1 for the stags.
We keep our unbeaten run and look even more ready for our last couple league games to decide the league. Man of the match goes to the keeper Owen Weir who made multiple saves which kept us from dropping points in a deserved win game.

Although we’ve been back in League action due to other results today it has been confirmed that we have topped our David Ferguson Trophy Group ending the campaign the only unbeaten side and sitting pretty at the top 💪🏼 roll on the draw for the knockout stages 👌🏼

Nene Sunday League

Thorplands Club 81 Stags 6-0 Duston Albion Football Club

Stags headed to Dally Park for the encounter with Duston Albion. As ever we don’t take any game lightly, with results in Div 2 hard to work out sometimes. Some work on the training pitch for us Friday night was put into action. The first 15 was about the players adjusting, Albion looked up for a battle. With Stags taking a more organised playing approach, which is something we possibly haven’t been used to. Stags grew and it wasn’t long before a long throw from Spencer was flicked on and JP Shanahan converted at the back post with a diving header 0-1.
A bit of confidence in our play, Stags started to get the ball down and play, although still mis placing a few passes. Around the half hour mark some good football led to a fine through ball from D.Dimmer to make it 0-2. This would only enhance the confidence throughout the team, the football becoming more comfortable. Around 40 mins with half time approaching, some more good play led to the ball finding the feet of D.Dimmer who lashed it home to make it 0-3.

Stags started the second half like they ended the first, although looking much more comfortable in the ball. Knocking it around, was a real joy to watch. Within minutes of kick off M.Pittam made a great flick on finding D.Dimmer bounding down on the Albion goal. Dimmer coolly slotted home to make it 0-4.
Some changes were made to add some fresh legs, and the football was becoming regular as Albion started to tire. But all credit to them they didn’t stop. Another nice passage of football and a smart ball through to A.Mehennaoui who calmly passed the ball into the net 0-5.
A host of changes, adding a 16 and 17 year old to the mix. Massive credit to the team as the football continued with both S.McAnulty and Michael Pittam going close. The game was pretty much put to bed not long later when F.Chika went through on goal to make it 0-6. Massive well done to all the players, was a great game of football. Tbh Duston Albion are not a bad side, and they will take points off teams. But we played well today, and they ran out of steam at the end. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Player of the match today was our very own, David Dimmer. 2 goals and 2 assists, and a cool head. But honestly the whole team deserved it from front to back, subs also.
With top of the table slipping up today against another of the leagues top teams David Green, the league is very much to play for. 11 games unbeaten, group stage completed. But as a team we stay grounded. Every game we need to be on it from the go. It’s officially just over a year this team has been together. And they continue to move forward.
