If you haven’t already heard, it is with great sadness that I regret to inform you that unfortunately, due to a lack of player commitment and just struggling for a consistent team, Woolacombe has had to throw in the towel and fold from the North Devon Football League, effective immediately.
After setting up the club almost 5 years ago, I’ve put a lot of hard work and time into getting us off the ground, along with the rest of our backroom staff, managers and the players.
We had a great season last year and managed to get promotion, but unfortunately due to players transferring and not being able to commit as much due to new commitments, we have had to pack it in.
Thanks to all for their support and all the local clubs we have played in that time, it’s been great fun despite the hard work. I fully underestimated how time consuming it is to run a football club, so if you’re thinking of starting one or joining a team, please consider carefully if you can commit the time.
Best of luck to the rest of our Intermediate 1 opponents this season, hopefully the players that want to continue will be able to find new clubs as soon as possible.
A massive thank you to Philip J Milton & Company Plc for sponsoring our kit. We’re so sorry and sad it didn’t last as long as it should have. James will be in touch with our plans for it, it’s going to a good home 🙂
Also massive thanks to Tommy G's for sponsoring our jackets. They kept us warm in many winters and they weren’t too bad to look at! 😎
Big thanks to North Devon Football League for hearing our appeal to start a club way back when, unfortunately with new teams being started, players are always attracted to play with other friends or to a larger club so they are required to commit less.
Special thanks to Rob Hornby for making a trip down to see us in last season and reporting our emphatic win on his grassroots blog.
Last thank you to the Council for letting us hire the facilities and Jan and Sally for always working with us as much as they could!
Best of luck to AFC Dumnonii who will now be the only football team playing in Woolacombe, take care of our home!
