Raiders 2 v 1 FPA Leipzeig

No league game today so we took on a top team from Liverpool in a friendly at home.

What a close well fought game, both teams were very physical and played their own game.

Raiders went ahead with a great placement finish from Keano. The equaliser came just before half time after a well worked goal.

Raiders mentality and never give attitude pass off and after an intense press we forced a mistake leading go a goal from Oliver. We kept focused and remained as calm as we could holding out until the end.

Every player won there personal battles and the team gel’d into a winning mentality and got the result. Well done everyone. Top game, everyone could have been man of the match but oaks pinched it with a solid performance all game.

Superb cup win today for the Raiders. Hard pitch to play on with the mud and rain but heart and desire pushed them all the way.

The great news keeps coming…….🥁 🥁 🥁

Newton-le-Willows FC has officially been renewed as a 3-Star England Football Accredited Club for the 2025–26 season, the highest level within the England Football Accreditation framework!! 💙

There are three levels of accreditation:

⭐ 1-Star
⭐⭐ 2-Star
⭐⭐⭐ 3-Star (the highest)

Achieving this standard is not easy. The accreditation works a bit like Ofsted for grassroots football. Clubs are reviewed and assessed by their governing body against strict criteria to make sure they are safe, well-run, properly structured and delivering football to the highest standards.

Only a small proportion of accredited clubs nationally achieve 3-Star status, which places Newton-le-Willows FC in a top tier group of grassroots clubs across the country.

This level recognises:

✅ Qualified and compliant coaches
✅ Strong safeguarding and DBS processes
✅ Well-structured pathways and programmes
✅ Robust governance and organisation
✅ A safe, positive environment for every player

• Craig Holcroft and Connor Howlett for leading the Comets

• Kerry Morris for delivering pathways such as Academy, Fundamentals and Wildcats, helping grow our offering to the community

And a massive thank you to Tom Cunningham for pulling it all together. A huge amount of work went in behind the scenes, and the club is incredibly grateful 👏💙

The good news just keeps coming!

Fresh off the back of receiving The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, we are delighted to announce that St Helens Council’s Cabinet has formally approved the proposed Community Asset Transfer of the King George V Playing Fields to the club.

This represents a major milestone for the future of grassroots football at our club and our wider community.

Cabinet approval means we can move into the next phase as we enter detailed negotiations with the council on the terms of the long-term lease. Securing this asset is a transformational opportunity for the club as it will unlock access to significant funding streams required to develop our own dedicated football hub; an enhanced facility that will support players of all ages, create more opportunities for participation, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the club.

Club Chairman Andy Tither commented:
‘We started this process just over five years ago and we are delighted to have got to this point after working with our local Newton Labour councillors throughout.
We appreciate that there is lots more hard work ahead but we look forward to sharing the plans with members in due course; our ambition is to create a central hub of excellence catering for all our teams and pathways, which is really exciting!’

We look forward to working closely with The FA, the Football Foundation and St Helens Council as we take the next steps towards delivering a facility that our teams and wider community can be proud of.

We will keep all members, volunteers and supporters fully updated.

Derby day
Newton Raiders v Vulcan FC

The day finally came where two really
Good teams met each other. It really was a game of two half’s.

1st half raiders started really strong and played probably the best half of football I have seen us play. Attacking and fast and absolutely solid at the back. CB murph on his debut played a man of the match performance and oaks at RB marking a lad over a foot bigger than him. Solid defensive performance.
Keano put us a head with a great finish and the momentum continued.

2nd half Vulcan came out a lot better and seemed to desire it more. Knocked the ball around very well and broke us down ultimately claiming the win at full time.

Great derby in my opinion,
Proud of our efforts today
