Wee Binnian Walkers

Wee Binnian Walkers One of the oldest & largest hillwalking groups in Ireland, we walk in the Mournes & Cooley mountains on 2nd/4th Sunday every month Down and Dundalk, Co. Louth.

We were founded in 1987 and are based in the North Eastern border area of Newry, Co. To become a Wee Binnian member, you must be over 18 years, have a level of fitness suitable to the demands of the activity and and accept the aims and objectives of the club. We walk in the Mournes and the Cooleys on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of the month starting at 10am. New members are very welcome and can come for

2 free walks as a casual to try the club out. We just ask you to come earlier between 9.15 and 9.45 to register with our membership secretaries either as a casual or to join. The Membership year starts on 1 April and runs to 31 March and the full year membership fee is £30 or €35. We have 4 grades of walk & we generally advise that on your first walk, you walk with the C group . All the information about each grade, fitness and kit is on our website. We were delighted to host 3 members of the wonderful Mourne Mountain Rescue Team at our BBQ - our own club member Dave was joined by his team mates Robert and Alwynne.
The team has come to the aid of countless hikers on the hills and we are very grateful that they provide this selfless and voluntary service.

On behalf of our members, our Club President Veronica along with our Chair Norman presented Robert and Alwynne with a donation of £2,000 to support the work of the MMRT and their new base.

Thank you so much MMRT for your dedication and professionalism. We know how fortunate we are to have you.

Our annual Summer gathering is a much looked forward to event in our calendar and as usual it lived up to expectations.
After our hikes today, 80 of us headed to the incomparable Dorans Bar Hilltown who have hosted us every year with a warm welcome and exceptional hospitality - the perfect venue in every way.
Huge thanks also to Brian and Sara Clinghan for the always delicious pig on a spit catering. Just Me Musician - Nigel kept us entertained with great music that got everyone dancing despite all the hiking done today.
Big thanks to our events team, specially Finola for organising it all for us 👏👏

Our Bs started from Spelga too but they headed to Slievenamiskan followed by C**k and Pigeon Rock. Then down to Deer’s Meadow, and after contouring round Slieve Muck by the source of the River Bann, they ascended Ott Mountain. Finally they descended to Ott car park and onto Slievenamuck before returning back to car park at Spelga Dam. Thanks Jerry, Daniel and David for leading.
