Newquay’s biggest World Cup Fanzone is moving indoors! ⚽

Due to the weather and the risk of the pitch not drying out in time, we’re moving the NQY Fanzone - England vs Croatia to Newquay Sports Centre.

And honestly, it just got better.

You’ll still get the full match-day atmosphere, but now with:

✅ Huge 40ft giant indoor screen
✅ Outdoor LED screen area
✅ Dry, warm indoor viewing
✅ Indoor and outdoor bars
✅ Free parking
✅ Reserved tables still closest to the screen

The Fanzone opens from 6pm, and we’ll also be showing Portugal vs DR Congo before the main event, so come down early and enjoy the build-up.

It’s match week.

England’s first World Cup game kicks oﬀ this Wednesday at 9pm, and we’ll be showing it live on the big screen at Mount Wise Stadium.

Gates open 3 hours before kick-oﬀ, with food, drinks, entertainment and a dedicated family-friendly zone.

Tim’s move has been years in the making, and the football has all been close to home.

“I’ve played most of my football in Cornwall. I was at Falmouth for a long time, then three years at Mousehole more recently, so mainly between step six and step four. I started out as an out and out winger but I’ve drifted inside over the years, so I can play anywhere from centre mid to the ten, even up front. I just like to get on the ball. I’ve been lucky to be part of some good footballing teams, building through the thirds, and I like to be everywhere, box to box.”

It took the right season to turn those long-running conversations into a signing.

“I’ve spoken to Middsy over the years about coming here, and I think this time is the right time. I’m fairly local, I don’t live too far away, and a lot of factors lined up this season. I’ve admired what the club’s been doing on and off the pitch over the last couple of years. It’s a club on the up, the town gets behind it, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

He joins a group he already knows, with a clear sense of where it can go.

“What I’m most looking forward to is playing with some of my close friends. The group had its first Western League season last year, and I think we can really push on, maybe get a play-off position. The ambition is high and I want to be part of that.”

As for what supporters can expect:

“I work hard. I’ll always give 100% every game, and if I don’t come off knackered then something’s gone wrong. I want to get on the ball, and I’ll fight to the end.”

And the part he looks forward to:

“I’m just looking forward to putting on a Newquay shirt, playing in red and white and being a Peppermint.”

Newquay AFC are proud to announce the signing of Tim Nixon! 🙌

Middsy has been an admirer of Tim for a number of years, and this summer the move to Mount Wise finally came together.

He’s an attacking midfielder who has spent most of his career in Cornwall, with a long spell at Falmouth and three years more recently at Mousehole, taking him up to step four. He started out as an out and out winger but has drifted inside over the years, and can now play right across the attacking line, from central midfield through to centre forward. He lives close by, with friends already in the squad, and he’s liked what he’s seen of the club these past couple of years.

Shaun Middleton, First Team Manager:
“Tim is a player I’ve had my eye on ever since becoming manager of Newquay Football Club. I’ve spoken to him a few times over the years, but he’s been playing at Southern League level. He comes to us with a fantastic reputation, having been part of very successful teams at Falmouth and Mousehole.
Tim is an excellent footballer who enjoys getting on the ball and playing the game the right way. He’s an intelligent player, and I believe he’ll be a massive asset for us this season. I’m really looking forward to working with him.
Just as importantly, he’s a great lad and will be a brilliant fit within our group. He’ll settle in straight away and I’m sure he’ll make a big impact both on and off the pitch.”

Jason Waterman, Director of Football:
“Tim is a technically accomplished attacking midfielder who gives us something different in the final third. He’s capable of playing across a number of roles in that attacking unit, which gives us real flexibility, and his experience from higher levels of the game is exactly the kind of quality we want running through this squad. He’s someone who can open teams up and make things happen in tight spaces, and from everything we know he will settle in quickly with the group. We’re pleased to have him.”

Getting involved with the club doesn't have to mean a hi-vis and a tea urn. Some of the best help we get is people simply doing the thing they're already brilliant at.

Take Jim Sheeran, who's just joined us as Creative Director. He runs Sheeran Creative here in Newquay and has spent decades in graphic design and photography, with brands like Vans and Birkenstock behind him. We're very lucky to have someone of his calibre lending that to a volunteer-run club, and it's already changing how we communicate our values and brand.

Whatever you're good at, there's probably a way to use it here and Newquay AFC. Writers, photographers, social gurus, people handy with a spreadsheet, anyone who likes organising or fixing things. You bring the skill and we'll find the spot.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐐𝐘 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐩 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝.

We are very lucky to have access to the giant hall at Newquay Sports Centre, along with a 40ft 4K cinema setup.

So, if the weather looks like it is against us, the whole event will simply move five minutes down the road to the Sports Centre.

All tickets will automatically be transferred across, and everyone will be notified as early as possible, hopefully at least 48 hours in advance.

Of course, we will still have plenty of bars, food options and a brilliant atmosphere at this great indoor location.

No matter what the weather does, the NQY World Cup Fanzone will be the best place to watch England this summer.

Pre-season started the right way, round a table at The Stable with a sea view.

The staff getting the plan together, the lads getting the season in their heads, and a reminder of exactly why people want to play their football here. Work hard, live well, beach on the doorstep. Now the fun begins.

Mike Cornish first played for Newquay back in 1956, aged just 15.

Recently, he came back up to Mount Wise, now 85, with his daughter alongside him, to stand on the ground where it all started and look through the history photographs on the stand.

His debut was away at Tavistock. He still remembers the weather, freezing cold and pouring with rain, bad enough that the lads ended up changing their shirts at the break. It was Mike Stern who passed him a little something to see him through the second half. A drop of whisky.

Seventy years on, the same ground is still here, and so is Mike. We loved having him back, and we hope a few more memories came flooding back along with the photos.
