Today we made the trip to Wattsville to play against Wattsville Sky. It was a bitterly cold and wet start to the game, meaning the Corries girls took a little while to warm up.
Wattsville took the lead and soon doubled their advantage to 2-0. Nana’s debut for the team saw her pull one back for the Corries, before Wattsville netted another 2 before half time, leaving us trailing 4-1 at the break.
Wattsville started quick from kick off of the second half, and scored straight away making it 5-1. Now would be where the Corries girls heads would usually drop and the score line would go from bad to worse, but not today!
You could see the difference in the team today, Corries were ready for a battle, and what a battle it was. They worked hard to win every ball, every tackle. They were moving the ball well, breaking down the wings and getting the ball into the box. A tap in on the line from Olivia brought the scoreline to 5-2.
They kept working, kept tackling, kept moving the ball forward. Goal number 2 from Nana, 5-3.
Wattsville still broke and had some good chances, our defence worked hard, with Erin in particular making sure nothing got past her at centre back.
A break, and a confident shot from our Captain Martha hit the back of the net, 5-4. The atmosphere changed, the Corries believed in themselves, and in each other, they knew they could push harder and bring this level.
Some strong defending kept out Wattsville pressure, leading to another Corries goal, Nana’s third, to bring the score level at 5-5 with 3 mins to go!
Corries kept the pressure on, winning corner after corner, with the last cross resulting in some chaos in the box and a Wattsville hand ball. Penalty to Corries in the dying seconds of the match!
Martha bravely stepped up to take the Corries fist ever penalty since starting competitive football, leading to a save from Wattsville’s goalkeeper and the final whistle blowing seconds later.
What. A. Game! I genuinely could not be any prouder of these girls, to end with a draw after being 5-1 down is such an achievement and they should all be so proud of themselves!
What a debut from Nana, great battling throughout and a hat trick! Making her the thoroughly deserving winner of our Player of the match sponsored by Spud Inc Ltd !

Massive well done to our other goal scorers Martha and Liv too!
