With the Commonwealth Games buzz and reminiscing about old weightlifting days it’s got me wondering about trying to compete again (the good people make it look so easy.. and it’s not)

Yeah I’m significantly older, have no time to train and wonder if I should just leave it as a memory… but I do think a more relaxed approach might well work better 🤷‍♀️ (probably not but I’m talking myself into it!) 😂

The S&C Trainer course is well underway now, we are almost half way through! It’s practical assessments this weekend before final case study preparations and delivery.

If you would like to do this course, I’ll be running another one at the end of September so DM or email me: [email protected] for more details 🤩

It’s hard not to get carried away and overcook it... trying to just get the moves feeling good and chip away at getting stronger.

The main thing is that I’m enjoying it! And feel like I’m benefitting 😊

Do you get that feel good factor from strength training?

If it’s done well you should feel energised and good about yourself, which is a huge benefit.

After all if we don’t feel good doing something then we’re not going to want to do it.

When I moved to Scotland in 2003, I was very naive about England/Scotland relations and soon got pretty tired of being ‘the English girl’ and all that came with it. It’s not you, it’s just the media…

But now, I don’t really notice it anymore, I think I’ve done my time here to be accepted! Although I am of course English through and through.

I wish Scotland all the luck for the World Cup, I’m loving the buzz 😊 and I know how raging you’ll be if football did actually come home 😂 don’t you know we did it 60 years ago? 😉

Research suggests 90- 120 mins of strength training a week has significant benefits.

To try and make this seem more accessible or less daunting, I’ve seen a few things about doing 15 minutes a day.

But why is there the need to move from a couple of decent sessions a week?

It might work better for some, but if the problem is with inconsistency and then ultimately not doing anything at all, I’d argue the messaging of little and often doesn’t help.

The reward you get for a decent effort (and recovery time to repair and get stronger) to me, seems like much more of a motivator. Feeling like you’ve taken the time to put in a bit of decent graft (not completing exhausting graft I might add) is a great accomplishment.

It’s just my opinion but even as a very motivated person.. ask me to do strength training every day? Not a chance.
