On behalf of Ashley Stockwell...
The Legacy League 2026… completed it mate?!
What can I say... thank you just doesn't seem enough?! For those that don’t know, on Sunday the 3rd of May myself, Trevor T-man Ford, David Lewis, and Andrew Downing hosted our second consecutive charity football event – The Legacy League. An all-day football league involving over 90 players averaging the age of 40 from around the community, coming together to raise money and awareness for Newbury Cancer Care. An amazing charity that is run by incredible people and volunteers, who provide support for patients and their families through the hardest of times.
The day turned out a real good one, with over 400 people dropping in throughout the day to show their support to loved ones and the cause. It was a very special day, and thanks to everyone involved we have collectively managed to raise over an incredible £14,000 – a massive congratulations and thank you to you all. None of this could be achieved without you. Take a bow people, that is beyond our wildest dreams!
To put this together takes a huge team effort, and we would just like to take a moment to thank all the people and businesses for their selfless support.
For the event itself, a huge thank you to Melissa Turnham and the staff at Trinity School for once again providing us with the facilities and support to run in the first place – it literally wouldn’t run without you, as ex-students we’re immensely proud to partner with you. Lewis, Dan, and team at Ashdown Phillips & Partners and Vodafone UK for once again supporting us with parking and stewarding/security at Vodafone HQ.
Dean Stockwell, Connor Stockwell, Mark Bartholomew and Dominique Bartholomew, Paul Stacey, Simon Browning, Anthony Coleman, and Lisa Ford for their help setting up and packing down -- additionally, thank you for your support running the social page Lisa. If you haven't followed us yet then please do.
Tesco Express Thatcham, Tesco Superstore Newbury, Tesco Burghfield Common, and both Lidl GB stores in Newbury for kindly donating water and snacks to support the players throughout the day.
Footy Skills 4 Kids for supplying speed-shot for the kids and to Debbie Hazzard for once again kindly running the show for us. Libby Softley-Harding, Nathan Stacey
and Joe Fisher at 'The F**t Collective' for their support providing free rehab for players throughout the day (there were a few), Libby Stockwell and Rosie Stockwell at Libby’s Cake Shed for feeding us all with delicious cakes. Paul’s Breakfast and Burger Bar and Nicks Mr Whippy for keeping everyone fed throughout the day, Phil White MWS Media for not only supplying the media system, but kindly gave up his time to produce a video that gives an insight into the team at Newbury Cancer Care and what they do -- that really meant a lot mate, thank you.
Our amazing team of referees from the Leisure Leagues Newbury: Sammy Vallance, Carl Morgan, Joe Hobbs, Chris Coleman, and Mark Bathe, that kindly gave up their day to help us keep those scallywags’ in check – sincerely guys, amazing job. It really helped the games and schedule run smoothly.

To all of you wonderful people that came down to cheer on and create that unique togetherness culture that has made the event what it is. Thank you 😊
To the players that took part – you absolute legends! You are the heart of what we do and without you, the additional support we bring to the community simply would not happen. Fact.
And finally, a massive thank you to Helen Milroy, Christine Stockwell, and all the staff and volunteers at Newbury Cancer Care and West Berkshire Community Hospital -- It takes incredibly special people to do what they do. On behalf of everyone you have supported in the past, you support at present, and will continue to do so in the future, we cannot thank you enough.
