Round 3: What a weekend.....
To say this weekend was a challenge is a massive understatement! Friday morning Ruby got the first taste of her new bike, it didn't go well. She had way more power than before which she loved but the bike was seriously twitchy and she crashed out of every session seriously knocking her confidence. I made a big change to the bike geometry in the afternoon and it was like I had given her a different machine! She came in buzzing and got faster and faster in each session.
Saturday carried on positively and she qualified 17th, one place higher than the last round. Time for the first race and with a great start she managed to fight her way up to 11th, having some great fights and finished in her highest place so far of 13th. Whilst watching her we noticed some places she could make up a lot of time. In the evening we worked on her body positioning and movement on the bike.
Sunday morning and Ruby woke up ready to fight. She went out in morning warm up and was 2 seconds a lap quicker than she had been all weekend. The evenings work had clearly made a difference. Race 2 and on the warm up lap Ruby heard some strange noises from the bike so pulled up and retired. After the race we checked the bike and it all seemed ok. We thought she was being over cautious and said in race 3 to just send it, as we had time before the next round to make repairs if needed. Race 3, Ruby was revved up after the disappointing race 2. We got the bike off the stand for her to go to the holding area and as she pulled away we had sparks from the clutch side. It turns out the strange noise she had heard before wad the front sprocket destroying itself and it wasn't until it was under load we saw it. Gutted.
Even though the results don't show it her riding improved so much this weekend. The fact that even when the bike wasn't doing what she wanted, she still pressed on is so impressive.
