Tonna RFC Under 11s

After five years coaching this cracking little team, there sadly won't be a Tonna RFC Under 12 team this coming season.

As coaches we are so proud of every single one of our awesome young boys and girls for how well they developed and applied themselves, and showed grit and determination in every game, whilst trying to play the game right.

For us it's never been about the results, its the skills and confidence they build, the friendships and memories made, and the fun they have through rugby.

At our recent player awards ceremony we recognised their efforts and their attitudes during a challenging season.

We also celebrated those that stood out and went the extra mile for their team:

A huge congratulations to Tonna RFC U11 Supporters Player of the Season - Frankie Davies - on being selected as captain for Neath Schools Rugby Under 11's for the coming season.

Frankie has played a year up since he started in contact, always leads by example on and off the pitch, and gives everything for his team. We know he can lead his team to a successful season.

An outstanding achievement for Frankie who has been playing up an age group this season, and he hopefully has another season with the Schoolboys ahead of him

A massive thanks to our friends at Cwmafan R.F.C. for coming down to Tonna RFC this morning and putting on a cracking rugby match and taking home a deserved win

It wasn't the Hollywood ending that we wanted for our season, but we are really proud of our players for always battling to the end

Our player of the week, Gwennan Sweeney, again ran herself into the ground and picked up two tries

Oliver Langan and Dexter Owen also chipped in another two each, along with a try for George French

Today was the final time that our brilliant girls will represent Tonna on the pitch but they will continue to boss it at Neath Panthers

We look forward to our end of the season presentation on 31st May

A fantastic morning of rugby at Bryncoch RFC between two really committed teams wanting to play the game in the right way

Well done Bryncoch on their win, but we are really proud of all of our players for coming back strong in the second half, competing hard and ending with the final try

A try each for Levi and Osian, and a brilliant hat trick each for Gwennan Sweeney and for our player of the match Oliver Langan 🙌

We only had 7 players available this morning, so we had a quick game of 7s against our friends from Bryncoch who deservedly won the match by 40 points to 30.

A lovely try for Oliver Langan and FIVE more for our player of the match Gwennan Sweeney 🙌

We followed this with a baa baas match where all the players mixed up and had some fun in the sun 😎

Thanks to our friends at Bryncoch RFC Bryncoch RFC for hosting a fantastic rugby festival today.

Our tremendous ten played in every minute of every game, they pushed themselves hard against five great teams, and despite not getting the results they wanted, they really enjoyed their day.

A huge well done to every player from Tonna RFC and Pyle RFC Under 11s for putting on a really excellent game of rugby this morning in atrocious conditions.

A fantastic advert for grassroots rugby in Wales 🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A gutsy team performance from our young developing players, who all fronted up in defence, made barn storming runs, kept trying to move the ball quickly, and look for offloads in attack, all in horrendous wind, rain and mud, which gave them a deserved victory against a plucky Pyle team.

Four tries today for Frankie Davies, another hat trick for Ella George, and a brace each for Levi Jarvis and Oliver Langan 👏

Friday night lights 😎

Tonna RFC and Bryncoch Rfc Under 11s put on a cracking game of rugby tonight.

In a tight match between two even teams, trying to play rugby the right way, rugby was the winner! (Although Bryncoch just edged it by a try or two)

Two tries tonight for Gwennan Sweeney, one for Levi Jarvis and four tries for Ella George.

Big thanks to Birchgrove for coming over to Tonna RFC this morning and for lending us players to keep the game on. The Birchgrove players who played for Tonna today deserve huge credit as they gave their all for whichever team they played for.

It was a fantastic game of rugby between two very determined teams, who tried to keep the ball alive and play with pace and width, with some cracking tries being scored by both teams.

Tonna stuck at it to the end, with just 1 try between the two teams going into the final 15 minutes, but Birchgrove went up a gear and deserved the win.

Tries today for Gwennan Sweeney, Ella George and a first of the season for Mali Skilton.

Congratulations to Mali on a player of the match performance after a determined effort in attack and defence, and for always trying to keep the game flowing. Well done Mali!
