Stour Valley fact #3: Boxted is a pretty village bordered by the River Stour. ‘boc' meaning beech trees and 'stede' a homestead.
During the Siege of Colchester in 1648 skirmishes broke out in the village between Parliamentary and Royalist troops and it was known as the Battle of Boxted Heath.

We’re in need of help on race day for the Stour Valley Marathon and Half Marathon/s on Sat 17 June. Please drop us an email if you can help. Hi vis provided but bring your own superpower. Actually there’s a role for absolutely everyone so we’ll take you even if you can’t fly lol 🦸‍♂️ ( clubs etc are most welcome to fly flags, give out leaflets to promote themselves)

The Trail Running Association (TRA) are the unsung heroes of trail races. They ensure that races are regulated and safe then issue permits. But more than that they have always given us invaluable advice and support. As a smaller (as compared to those who are doing this full time rather than alongside other jobs) race organiser sometimes we need a bit of a sounding board. Just this week we were able to resolve a behind the scenes issue with their help. You can also join them as an individual - we’ve been TRA runners for a while. All the committee are volunteers giving back to the trail running community. We’d like to give them a big thanks 🙏 You are much appreciated. Check out their website www.tra-uk.org

Stour Valley fact #2-
We all pronounce Stour differently!! Ok, maybe not fact but makes for a lively discussion and one we like to have annually.

Lorraine is from Yorkshire and John is from Essex - and both rhyme Stour with “ flower”. If you’re from Suffolk or Norfolk you’re more likely to say “store”. Interestingly if we were talking about the Stour in Worcestershire it’s more of a “ star” ( Lorraine is a bit of a Grebo Girl who likes Stourbridge bands -look it up!- and they definitely say Starbridge. Sorry, digressing slightly there…)

So over to you- let’s see if the Stores outweigh the Stowers! Comment below now ⬇️
