Mixed news yesterday ☯️

Good news - the consultant is happy that my ACL graft is stabilising my knee and some good progress!

Bad news - I'm not allowed to ride until next Easter 😞 this will also impact my handling of horses too.

I am tempted to say f**k it and do what I like but in the long run I need my knee to be fixed properly so what is another 'couple of months' especially as the risk is to basically go back to the start of this process 😱.

Thank you to everyone that has been supportive and understanding during this time.

I will be continuing to focus on my coaching and live vicariously through my clients ☺️☺️

Many of us are now starting to enjoy the first days of cooler weather and finally getting the rainfall we’ve been waiting for! With the change in weather, comes potential changes to your horse’s pasture with an increase in grass growth.

Be extra vigilant for the signs of laminitis as shown below. If you have concerns about your horse’s health remove them from grazing land where possible and call your vet immediately.

Horses carrying excess weight, or have health conditions such as Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) or Cushing’s Disease, are at particular risk during this time.

It is good practice to monitor your horse regularly with a weight tape and fat scoring to ensure they remain a healthy weight; helping to reduce the potential risk of laminitis.

For more information on laminitis visit: https://www.bhs.org.uk/horse-care-and-welfare/health-care-management/horse-health/equine-diseases/laminitis/

With temperatures set to soar across the UK, consider how you can keep your horse as comfortable as possible 😎

💦The most effective way to cool down a horse is to continuously pour cold water all over their body. Don’t waste time scraping - leaving water on a horse will not make them hotter. Instead, any water sitting on the coat will evaporate and contribute to the cooling process.

Our infographic below provides some simple steps you can take to keep your horse cool and comfortable, as well as signs to look out for if you are worried about dehydration. If you have any concerns for your horse contact your vet immediately.
