Redcar tournament
Difficult one for us today, playing teams 3 divisions higher it was always going to be a stretch but sport is about pushing yourself at times.
Our first game v Westerhope we went toe to toe but were ultimately undone by 2 goals with our defencive line sitting too high we were caught by a ball over the top, disappointing but it let us see that we could compete.
Game 2 v Cramlington saw us win, absolutely deserved our victory the boys worked their backsides off with Dylan as cool as ice grabbing the goal.
Game 3 v Stockton, we've had some bad officiating but this one took the biscuit. First half was back and forth, we took the lead with a thunderbolt of a strike from JJ wide right. Stockton equalised benefiting from a close offside decision. JJ almost put us back in the lead with a repeat of his strike this one striking the post, Stockton cleared to their striker who is yards offside and puts them ahead. In the back and forth Brandon was put clear through and brought down outside the area, he dusted himself off and buried the free kick. Second half didn't go too well, we lost goals when we couldn't clear our lines but the half was marred by a shocking challenge on Logan, studs down his akilies, he couldn't continue but the ref didn't even see it as a foul, shocking, to be fair to opposition coaches they were spot on with Logan and spoke to their lad that what he did was unacceptable.
Last game v Silksworth and first comment off the lads was oh no its that ref again, and he lived up to that comment, 2 goals against again offside, his explanation to jude at half time was that ha had played them on, great but he was a substitute 😅.
Overall for the day I know the lads were disappointed but against teams that should beat us we gave a good account of ourselves and were complimented by each opposition coach, we were proud of the lads today.
Thanks also to the parents and guardians, these tournaments can be a long day so thanks for getting the lads there and supporting them it really is appreciated 👏
Once again thanks to our sponsor Vertu Hyundai Peterlee without their support days like this may not be possible.

MCC Roma 7-0 South Shields
A game for us we were expecting to win and a game we made hard work of finding the opener.
A number of chances went by in the first half without us breaking the deadlock, definitely some shooting practice on Monday 🫣. We thought we had taken the lead with Freddie tapping in a loose ball but for Logan to have been called offside in the buildup. The half was playing out with Shields offering little threat but spurning our chances it was seeming like it wouldn't be our day, Logan had been a constant threat up front and another run saw him break clear and gave the keeper no chance with his finish.
1-0 at half time and the feeling was good that we could get more, we pushed Alfie into midfield and gave Logans legs a rest as we went back out, the goals didn't take long in coming. In a half where we dominated Brayden C was quick to make the most of a switch to striker grabbing 3 second half goals. Brayden T also in on the act with a fantastic solo goal, great close control, Logan doubled his tally when he came back on with fresh legs. Dylan also got himself a goal, somehow from right back found himself 2 yards out on the left side of their goal for a simple tap in, simple if youre in the right place.
Amongst the goals should have been another, having been awarded a penalty Brandon stepped up, keeper managed to save the shot but Brandon reacted first and put away the rebound, the goal was ruled out unfortunately for Brandon but we did get an apology from the ref for wrongly ruling it, doubt Brandon will forgive him 🤣.

Our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee man of the match was Brandon, during the first half where we struggled to make the breakthrough Brandon was there constantly to break up play and drive us forward, second half from defence was cool under pressure, unlucky with the penalty call but another solid all round performance, well done 👏 👏

MCC Roma 3-2 Whiteleas
What a game to miss 🫣
With Whiteleas on an eight game unbeaten run, this weeks fixture was going to be a tough one.
The boys stepped up again and were able to get our league run back on track, just the small matter of the league leaders in next week's fixture, we will welcome the challenge I'm sure they'll want to get one back after we beat them earlier in the season.

MCC Roma 2-0 Herrington Whites
With a free week we had the chance to play a game v a team from a higher league, we wanted to test ourselves and prepare for some tough games we have coming, the boys stepped up again.
First half we were created a number of chances while also looking solid at the back, a good platform to build off, and we took the lead in an unlikely manner with Logan running onto a through ball 1on1 with the opposition goalkeeper he squared the ball for a simple tap in for Freddie.
We were looking comfortable in the game with a number of chances falling to Logan who on another day would have a hat full, today just the one in the second half when he took a shot on early from outside the area and the ball skidding under the keepers grasp.
Our midfield 3 were working well together with Arthur, Jacob and Leon closing down and winning the ball stopping Herrington from building too much momentum, on the occasion where they did get through our defence was solid.
We were short on numbers but the boys were all fantastic, big thanks to Brayden T stepping in to fill in goal, handling was very good which contributed to the clean sheet.
Our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee man of the match went to Dylan, calm on the ball making the right decisions and instrumental in turning defence into attack, well done 👏

MCC Roma 18-0 Foundation of Light
Not a typo
FoL were game and didn't let their heads drop despite the score, for us we played like we should have been lately and created more than even the scoreline shows.
Some positives from the game,
We welcomed JJ back, hes been a miss with his ability to carry the ball at pace and get us up the field.
Dylan slotting into central defence and with pace and commitment nullified FoLs rare threat, along with a wonderful finish for his second goal.
A strong performance from Logan, leading the attack well and managing a double hat-trick 👏

Goals

Freddie ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
Brayden C ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Dylan ⚽️⚽️
JJ ⚽️⚽️
Brayden T ⚽️

Our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee man of the match was Freddie, along with his 4 goals his contribution in both attack, creating chances for himself and others, and defence really getting stuck into the hard thankless job of harrying, jostling, making life difficult, getting stuck in, an all round performance that was a pleasure to watch, well done 👏

Thanks to our ref for the day who seeing how the game was panning out really tried to encourage FoL and help keep their spirits up 👏

On a cautionary note, our next league game in a couple of weeks time is v Whiteleas who got the better of us in our last encounter, we can't let ourselves to believe that everything is easy and just turn up and win, we start again at 0-0 and must expect a very difficult game, but for now enjoy the win well done lads 👏

Gateshead 3-7 MCC Roma
After two months without a league fixture we were lucky to get an early kickoff against a team using an artificial pitch otherwise the weather would have put us further back.
We were missing a few players and also welcoming a new player in Dylan who would make his debut in the freezing snowy conditions.
I thought we didn't start great with no great flow to our passing but we looked solid enough at the back and did well closing Gateshead down to prevent any great chances. Once we got started the boys done well, Logan with a recurring theme for the day got onto a through ball, held off his marker and finished well to set us away.
Brayden C was next up with a strong running from the left wing carrying the ball half the length of the field to give the cushion.
We'd need it as a Gateshead move forward looked nullified as the push down the wing was blocked, they came towards the centre but without being closed down from the edge of our box and a speculative effort landed in the far corner.
With the reminder we needed that Gateshead were capable of giving us trouble we started passing and a move down our right saw Freddie beat his man and lay the ball off for Logans second of the game.
Half time saw us settle and Logan on fire getting a hat-trick of second half goals putting us 6-1 ahead.
Jacob who had moved from central to wide right got in on the act collecting the ball in the box, shifting it to the right and finishing low to the bottom right.
The snow was really laying now and a couple of injuries the boys were really feeling the effort and the cold, wed see out the game with just 10 fit to continue and in the process conceding a penalty, Jack did his best and despite getting fingers to the ball he couldn't stop it. A minute later and Gateshead were able to take advantage of their numerical advantage and pull another back but it was too little too late.
There was a few contenders for our man of the match with Dylan particularly impressive on his debut, but with 5 goals its hard to look past Logan for our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee man of the match with really strong running, positional play was good and he also did the defencive work we've been asking without being prompted, 5 goals a real birthday bonus 🥳, fantastic effort well done👏👏 same again next week 😅

MCC 0-3 Foundation of Light Black Cats
Our second cup game and a test for us with the opposition being two divisions higher.
With a few unavailable it was thanks to a late call for Leon to step in that we were able to field 11 players, definitely needed as playing quality opposition a player short would be difficult.
We held our own for large parts and defended really well, we closed down and harried well and when we had the opportunity we got forward quickly, Logan doing a very good job of occupying their center halfs creating the space for us to play.
We lost the first goal when a FoL shot hit the foot of the post, and bounced back out to the edge of the box, FoL were first to react and we were too slow to react allowing a strike on goal.
Going a goal behind was tough but the boys were defending well and keeping chances to a minimum, at the other end Logan almost getting the equaliser with a shot just wide of the right post.
Half time and we let the boys know that they were working well and with just one goal in it we stood every chance of getting back into the game if we could keep up the intensity. We did keep up the intensity Arthur on the left was proving to be a great out ball for us while Jack in goal pulled off a couple of good saves to keep us in the game. The second for FoL came midway through the half, with the ball in our box we twice failed to get it clear and were punished. Again our heads didn't drop but with no subs we tired when trying to push forward and with a couple of players out of position FoL's forward broke through to seal the win.
I was proud of how the boys battled and of how hard they worked, its frustrating sometimes to lose but when the effort has been put in like they did we can't ask for any more.
Our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee man of the match went to two players as I couldn't split them, Jacob and Brayden T. First Jacob covered so much ground and was a real spark in midfield making runs to get forward and sprinting to get back to put challenges in, and Brayden I don't think he lost a battle once, really has been working so hard its great seeing him in this form, well done both 👏👏👏

South Shields 0-1 MCC Roma
After a bad performance and result last week it was important to learn the mistakes and get back to winning ways. We did that albeit not being at our best. The team worked hard and were never in danger of conceding a goal but couldn’t get our passing and creativity going as we would have liked it. Despite this there was some good play from Leon in a congested midfield with Arthur’s close control creating some good moments. Brayden C was a constant threat and JJ was the one who was put though in space a few times but we could not test their goalie enough. Eventually Logan managed to find some space in the box, shifted it on to his left foot and struck a good shot into the bottom corner having been unlucky on a few other occasions. We couldn’t add to this but got the deserved win. Logan was our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee MoTM for his work rate, in both boxes, and for grabbing the final goal to claim the deserved 3 points

MCC Juniors Roma 2-6 Shildon
A day to forget when it just didn't work out, and credit to the opposition where everything just went well for them.
We started slowly and couldn't get on or retain the ball, we were punished, Shildon were very strong on the wings and with confidence on the ball got the ball to the wings quickly where they repeatedly got behind us, 10 mins in and we were 3 goals behind and left with a mountain to climb.
A rare moment for us saw Logan break forward and brought down in the oppositions box, true to form for the day Alfie stepped up and struck the ball well just to see the keeper make the save. To compound this Shildon would get forward and grab another to put them 4 up before half time.
We spoke to the boys at half time about confidence and workrate, we have the talent to have done much better, we put Arthur slightly higher up the field and Freddie up top and we did improve slightly but in truth we couldn't have continued as poorly.
We started to get some chances with Freddie firing one shot and it just going inches wide.
Brayden T got the ball playing at right back in the opposition half and drove forward, getting past multiple players was duly brought down for our second penalty of the game, this time Brayden T would take it himself but as had happened in the first half the ball was firmly struck but the keeper got a hand to it to divert it onto the post and away.
We then had a couple of open goal opportunities similar where the ball was played across the goal from the left to JJ on the right with him unable to get the contact to score.
We won a corner and from the resulting ball in Brayden C got a foot to the ball at the front post to flick it into the goal.
We were much improved but still felt that Shildon had it in them to cause us problems, and sure enough got a fifth shortly after our opener.
With time in the half running out 10 mins remaining JJ was badly fouled just outside Shildons box having to leave the field in pain, Brayden C stepped up with the resulting free kick and put it in the top corner.
Again the celebrations were short lived as a simple ball over wasn't defended anymore their lad finished well leaving Jack no chance.
Overall it was a really poor showing from ourselves, yes the second half we acquitted ourselves much better but this was a performance well below expectation with only a few positives to take from it.
Brayden T didn't start at right back but we moved him there to try and stem the flow from Shildons left, it took a minute to settle but again Brayden put in 110% effort, he didn't win every challenge but was there each time to battle for the ball and despite the penalty that was saved Brayden took our Vertu Hyundai Peterlee man of the match, well done 👏
