❤️🖤 WEEKEND RECAP | Colne Tournament 2026 ❤️🖤
Now that the weekend has wrapped and the bags are unpacked, it’s time to look back on an unforgettable trip for our girls at the Colne Tournament.
Saturday kicked off with two separate groups and four quick‑fire 12‑minute matches. The girls battled through the group stage with four hard‑earned draws against strong sides in Blackpool FC, Lytham Girls FC, Dronfield Town FC and St Annes Kestrels FC.
They never lost a game, scored some brilliant goals, and showed real grit — even if a couple of avoidable goals kept things interesting.
Other results meant we landed a quarter‑final tie against the Group 2 winners, Horsforth MLFA, who had taken a perfect 15 points from 15.
The girls knew the challenge… and they rose to it.
A tight, physical battle ended in a narrow 1–0 defeat, with us inches away from an equaliser at the final whistle. Horsforth went on to lift the cup, showing just how close we were.
Dropping into the Plate semi‑final, we faced Dronfield Town again. A tense, evenly matched game went all the way to penalties — and what a shootout it was.
Grant, Gallagher and Steell buried their spot‑kicks, and Steell stepped up in goals to pull off a fantastic save, sending us into the Plate Final.
Massive well done to Steell stepping up this weekend to play in goals as we never had a keeper, but you honestly wouldnt have known, some of them saves where fantastic 🔥.
The final brought another tough opponent in Lytham Girls FC. A scrappy, hard‑fought match saw both teams battling to find rhythm, but a late corner from Lytham sealed the result.
It wasn’t to be our day — the short games, the slow starts and the conditions… they all played their part.
But what mattered most wasn’t the medals.
It was the experience, the growth, the memories, and the reminder that this group is so much more than a football team. It’s a family and the photos and videos from the weekend prove it.
Thank you to the entire Colts family for another brilliant away weekend. ❤️🖤
