Match Report:

🏉 Morley RFC U14s vs Beverley RUFC U14s
Yorkshire Cup – Round 3
Sunday 23 November 2025

After two weather-hit weekends without a game, the U14s were back in action on Sunday as they hosted Beverley in Round 3 of the Yorkshire Cup. With limited prep, the boys stepped onto the field full of determination—and it showed.

Both sides opened with fierce defensive efforts. Morley set the tone early with huge tackles from Leo, Thomas and Jack. The breakthrough came from a moment of brilliance: Beverley kicked long, and fullback Josh gathered calmly before tearing almost the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Beverley hit back quickly with a converted try and later added a penalty, leaving Morley 7–10 down at halftime.

The second half mirrored the first—tight, physical, and hard-fought. Morley struck first again, with Josh crossing for his second try to regain the lead at 12–10.

But discipline started to slip, and a run of penalties allowed Beverley to pin Morley deep in their own half. Another penalty put the visitors in front, 12–13. Morley’s defence stayed heroic, with Tylan producing a sensational try-saving tackle, but Beverley eventually added an unconverted late try to edge the win, 12–18.

Despite the result, the boys walked off with heads high. Underdogs going in, they delivered a performance full of grit, teamwork, and heart. The coaches—and supporters—couldn’t be prouder.

🏆 Forward of the Match: Leo (outstanding tackling), with a big shout-out to Tylan for a huge defensive shift.
🏆 Back of the Match: Thomas, with special mention to Jack—the centre duo were relentless in attack and defence.

A brilliant game of rugby from a group that never stopped working for each other.

Match Report: Morley RFC vs. Rotherham RUFC
Yorkshire Cup Round 2

Morley RFC travelled to Rotherham Titans for their second-round clash in the Yorkshire Cup.
The Maroons fielded a strong squad, with a few players stepping out of their usual positions to bolster the defensive line-up.

Special recognition goes to Thomas and Spencer, who both showcased their defensive prowess in the centres.

The match kicked off with Morley taking control in the first half. Winger Rio opened the scoring with a brilliant break through the defence, putting Morley ahead 5-0 (unconverted). Shortly after, fullback Josh made a fantastic run to score under the posts, with Archie F converting to extend the lead to 12-0. Thomas then executed a clever kick into the opposition's 22, which the Titans failed to recover. Thomas swooped in to score our third try, making it 17-0 (unconverted). The half concluded with a successful conversion from Archie, bringing the score to 20-0.

In the second half, Morley struck first again with Dylan crossing the line to make it 25-0. However, the Titans found their rhythm and quickly scored two tries, along with a penalty kick, narrowing the gap to 25-15. Morley faced mounting pressure as the Titans aimed for a comeback. Yet, the momentum swung back when Archie F crashed over from a driving maul, converting his own try to seal the match at 32-15!

The Morley boys played exceptionally well, demonstrating strength in both attack and defence. This victory secures our position in the top tier for the next round of the Yorkshire Cup.

Forward of the Match: Dylan – for his relentless work ethic, strong running, and unwavering support.

Backs of the Match: Thomas – fearless in defence and playing beyond his size.

The Under 14s continue to build on their success, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting Season.

Morley U14s vs Wetherby – Match Report
Morley U14s travelled to Wetherby on Sunday with a depleted squad and missing several key players. Wetherby have always been a tough and physical side, and Sunday lived up to that reputation in full.
The Maroons showed real character to keep fighting through a bruising encounter that, at times, threatened to get away from proper control. Despite several injuries and some moments that might have benefited from a firmer hand, the lads never stopped digging in for each other and showing pride in the shirt.
In the end, Morley were handed a convincing loss on the scoreboard, but the effort and bravery on display were undeniable. With a number of players sidelined after some questionable challenges that went largely unaddressed, it was a frustrating afternoon for players, coaches, and parents alike. Sadly, this wasn’t one of those occasions where much could be learned from defeat — only endured.
Forward of the Match went to Frankie George, who stepped into the pack and put in a relentless shift from first whistle to last.
Back of the Match went to Jack Pearce, playing out of position at fly-half — tireless in attack, fearless in defence, and a constant example of commitment.
A fallow week follows before the lads travel to Rotherham Titans RUFC on 2nd November for the next round of the Yorkshire Cup.
Plenty of bumps, a few bruises, but spirits unbroken. We rally, we regroup, and we go again. UTM!
