From "Splash Phobia" to Underwater Confidence! 🌊✨

This is why we do what we do. Five months ago, even a tiny splash of water was a major hurdle for this swimmer. Today? She’s gliding with her face in the water, calm, collected, and completely at home in the water ❀️

Progress is about breaking down barriers and building a relationship with the water. Seeing that "forever proud" moment from a parent is such an amazing feeling! πŸ™πŸ’™

This weeks Top Tip Thursday is very important. Please read.

17 lives tragically lost in open water this past half-term alone. πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡

The news from this hot spell breaks my heart. 17 people went out to enjoy the warmer weather and didn't come home.

When you unexpectedly enter open water, your body’s natural reaction is panic and rapid breathing. This "cold water shock" can be fatal in minutes, even if you are a strong swimmer. The absolute most dangerous thing you can do is fight the water.

The experts at RLSS, Swim England, and the STA all agree on the #1 rule to survive: Float to Live.

If you or someone you love gets into difficulty:
1️⃣ Fight your instinct to swim – Stop moving, lean back, and float.
2️⃣ Tilt your head back – Keep your ears submerged to help you float easily.
3️⃣ Control your breathing – Gently move your hands and feet to stay afloat until the initial shock passes.

Once your breathing is under control, only then should you call for help or swim to safety.

Are you working hard but feel like you’re not moving forward efficiently? One of the biggest mistakes in freestyle is a weak, slipping hand. If your pull lacks "grip" on the water, you are leaving massive speed on the table. Today, for Technique Tuesday, we continue our equipment series with a absolute game-changer: Hand Paddles.

In this video, I’ll show you how to use paddles to instantly improve your catch, feel the water resistance, and build the upper body strength needed for a faster, more powerful pull.

What you’ll learn:
βœ… Maximize Water Feel: How paddles exaggerate the resistance, giving you better tactile feedback.
βœ… Fix Your Catch and Finish: Why paddles demand proper alignment throughout the propulsive phase.
βœ… Build Upper Body Strength: How they act as resistance training for your back and lats.
βœ… Stroke Awareness: Use them to identify and correct any dead spots in your pull.

4 x 100s as:50m Paddles Only: Focus on a strong catch, keeping the elbow high, and maintaining a smooth, connected pull. Focus on the feel.50m Full Stroke (No Paddles): Remove the paddles and try to replicate that same heavy, connected pressure on your forearms.

Focus on:

A clean hand entry, no slapping.

Constant water pressure throughout the pull.

Core engagement for stability.
