The club are deeply saddened to hear the heartbreaking news of the passing of former player Jamie Evans.
Jamie spent much of his childhood down at Bearstone Road, watching his dad, Paul ‘Jister’ Evans, play his cricket. After bowling his 20 overs, Jist would often spend hours after the game giving Jamie throwdowns — moments that undoubtedly helped shape the talented cricketer he would go on to become.
Jamie started his cricket in the 2nd XI alongside his dad before making his 1st XI debut at just 14 years of age.
Even at such a young age, Jamie’s talent was clear for all to see. His wicketkeeping was already amongst the best in the league, and in his first season in the 1st XI he finished 2nd in the league for dismissals by a wicketkeeper. His career continued to go from strength to strength, including scoring his first 1st XI century at just 16 years old.
Jamie was an exceptionally talented cricketer, but above all, he was a lovely lad and a great friend to so many people within the club.
To lose someone so young is incredibly difficult to comprehend, and Jamie will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him and sharing a cricket field with him.
Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with Paul, the Evans family, and all of Jamie’s friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
Rest in peace, Jamie. You will never be forgotten. 🕊️
