Congratulations to John Greenwood (Calshot Divers) and Simon Vickers (Eastleigh Sub Aqua Club - BSAC Branch 0476) on receiving BSAC - British Sub-Aqua Club's "Alan Broadhurst Award" at the - well deserved recognition for an extraordinary act of courage and skill.

John and Simon recovered an unconscious rebreather diver who had been non-breathing for over ten minutes. They immediately began resuscitation on the casualty with no pulse, sustaining lifesaving efforts until an AED and additional support arrived. Over the next hour, around 20 people became involved in the response, including an A&E doctor, two response vehicles, two ambulances, and a helicopter.

The diver was placed in an induced coma at the scene, and transferred to Southampton General Hospital. After three days they regained consciousness and went on to make a full recovery - with no memory of the incident, aside from a ruined dive suit and a few broken ribs.

A remarkable outcome, and a testament to the training and swift, decisive actions of everyone involved - well done all.

Welcome to 2026 (y) We hope you've had a good year so far... we started by providing "protection services" (well, we were mainly there to chase other boats away) for RNLI Calshot Lifeboat and their new annual "News Years Day Dip" (Y)

Well done to the numerous services who assisted in making this a successful and safe event (y) We understand around 50 people got into the sea - without Dry Suits :-o - and they all got out (some much quicker than others).

A fun quiz night at Ebenezers, Hythe was organised by the RNLI fundraising team, and we supported it by entering 2 teams from the club. After 9 rounds, including naming cartoon dogs, Team “Calshot Skivers” and “Dippy Divers” tied on points in a respectable mid-position. The charity evening was well-supported by locals and raised approximately £300 for the RNLI Calshot Lifeboat

We had another great day with RNLI Calshot Lifeboat a few weeks ago. We showed them how to dekit a typical UK diver, and they showed as a few techniques on how to get a casualty into a RIB (y)

We hope we never need them, but if we do, then we know we're in the best hands possible. Thanks guys, same again next year? :-)

A big "Thank you" to Karen, Graham and John for helping out on this amazing event (y) After almost 5hrs in the pool, they are probably already tucked up in bed and asleep :-)

Well done to all the students who attended, it looks like they all enjoyed it - I'd be surprised if there isn't a couple of "Future Ocean Guardians" in todays group. Well done to NAS and Andark for providing the kit and organising the students - including a few extras! :-o

We had a great pool session yesterday with various "checkout", skills and Try Dives being conducted. It seems everyone had fun and achieved something (y) Thank you to those who helped make it another successful evening - more of the same next time? :-)

What do you do at Vobster? We were there today doing some bottom line, dive leading, navigation, depth progression, and nose blowing (y) Visibility has improved, but it was busy, so a bit kicked up in the common areas. Water temperature was 7'c at the Helicopter, but the coffee was hot (y)

Chesil Cove Dive – May Morning Magic

6x Calshot Divers arrived at Chesil Cove bright and early for a 8am start, to find stunning conditions - blue skies, calm sea, and no waiting on the tide.

The water looked beautifully clear from the surface, but once under, it turned out to be a bit bloomy with visibility around 4 to 5 meters. We followed our classic anti-clockwise rectangle: 10 minutes southwest, 30 minutes southeast, and a gentle return to shore. We spent time pottering about in search of the elusive Chesil octopi, but no luck today. Still, we were rewarded with sightings of a dogfish and two graceful cuttlefish.

The final push was the usual scramble out onto the ever-challenging Chesil shingle—always a good way to finish. After the dive, a peaceful walk along the cliffs and soaked up the sunshine.

Dive stats: max depth 13 meters, water temperature 13°C. Two divers were in wetsuits—everyone else was in drysuits - but everyone enjoyed their dives.
