Friends of Chain Bridge Bathing Sheds

Friends of Chain Bridge Bathing Sheds Page set up by the Friends of Chain Bridge Bathing Sheds. Swimming or other activities take place only with IDB and angling club permission.

For swimmers, anglers, kayakers historians and wildlife lovers who would like to see the preservation of the Sheds. Chain Bridge bathing sheds were constructed in the 1920's and from then till the early 1960s were used by the local community for recreational bathing and by local schools and swimming clubs to teach children to swim. Although many towns had bathing areas, these sheds are notable i

n that a substantial concrete structure was erected next to the Twenty Foot River, including a sheet steel driven frontage. Since their closure the sheds, which are the property of the Inland Drainage Boards have been rented to anglers. They are an important local asset and this page aims to encourage their use and preservation. This page is maintained by the Friends of Chain Bridge Bathing Sheds which is an Unincorporated Charitable Association set up to maintain and preserve the Sheds.

October 2015 - second clean-up. We cleared up another 20 dustbin bags full of rubbish that had been dumped there and in the river. Car bumpers, a lawnmower, a cash register and a mattress were among the star attractions. Thanks to March Angling Club for letting us in for the day. (As I understand the culprits are not members of the club).
