✈️🌍 When we chose our Amazing Africa adventure, the itinerary ticked off so many things that had been firmly on our travel wish list. From safari to Cape Town and Victoria Falls, there was a lot to look forward to!

It was also our first experience of a multi-centre touring holiday, and we really weren’t sure how we’d find it.

The tour wasn’t fully escorted, which actually worked really well for us. We had the reassurance of everything being organised, but still had plenty of freedom along the way.

We paid a little extra to have direct flights from London Heathrow to Johannesburg, and then the adventure really began… ✈️

As part of the tour, we flew from Johannesburg down to Cape Town, then on to Victoria Falls, before flying back to Johannesburg and finally home to Heathrow.

So, to say we got our air miles in would be an understatement! 😂✈️

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing more of this incredible adventure, the places we visited, the experiences we had and, of course, plenty of photos!

Well, we’re back in delightful Derbyshire… and definitely feeling the chill! 🥶🇬🇧

After the most incredible tour of South Africa, it’s safe to say this is no longer my view! 🌍🦁 What an absolutely amazing adventure we’ve had.

This weekend, I’ll be catching up with clients who are travelling within the next month, and I’ll be getting back to new enquiries from Monday onwards.

Last night, we enjoyed an absolutely fabulous dining experience at Mama Africa in Cape Town 🇿🇦🪘🌍

Mama Africa is so much more than just a restaurant – dining here is a true cultural journey through the flavours, traditions and spirit of Africa. 🌍❤️

From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed into an experience built around community, respect and togetherness. We loved learning about the traditions behind the face painting, a joyful celebration of identity and culture, and the beautiful hand-washing ritual carried out at the table before sharing a meal – symbolising purity, welcome and the bond created when eating together.

The menu itself is incredibly diverse, bringing together flavours from across the continent… and Dave even tried crocodile for the very first time! 🐊😋

To complete the evening, the spirit of Africa was brought alive with powerful drum performances and the wonderful sounds of the Marimba band. 🪘🎶

There was an 80 rand per person charge added to the bill for the band and entertainment, which was explained to us at the start and equates to roughly £3.60 per person – something we really didn’t mind paying at all for such a fantastic experience.

Every detail made us feel like we weren’t simply dining guests, but part of the Mama Africa family. ❤️

And best of all? It was literally just a 10-minute walk from our hotel, making it the perfect end to our first fantastic day of sightseeing in Cape Town.

Amazing food, incredible entertainment and memories we’ll take away with us from South Africa. 🇿🇦✨

Definitely an experience we would recommend!

When you’re planning a trip away, there’s so much to think about. And if you’ve got pets, that’s another important piece of the puzzle.

We’re incredibly lucky. Whenever we travel without Tilly, she stays with family, for which we’re so grateful… and she’s more than happy with that arrangement too! ❤️🐾

Many of our friends say Tilly is the most well-travelled dog they know. She joined us on our year touring Europe in our motorhome in 2024, visiting Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain and travelling all the way up the west coast of Ireland.

These photos, though, are from our trip to the Outer Hebrides in 2021. Even now, it’s still one of my all-time favourite holidays – the one I genuinely never wanted to end. There’s just something magical about those islands.
