PROMOTION PARTY AT PORTER!

And with a hard fought victory our NINE! month 2025/26 campaign draws to a close with our second promotion in two seasons secured.

A nervy opening period gave for tense watching as the boys tried to find their feet in the game with an obvious worry about not falling short.

But a lofted free kick from deep helped settle the nerves at Noah ⚽️ lobbed Theo Porter keeper to give the Main the advantage.

As the first half progressed the group began to take control and create a number of half chances but lacked that killer edge.

At half time we all spoke about sticking to the plan but unfortunately the emotions seemed to take control and the game descended into an end to end affair.

Although the boys managed to stifle the hosts to hardly a single attempt on goal whilst they continued to create chances at the other end.

And eventually the pressure paid off as Hayden won a penalty which Ethan ⚽️ calmly dispatched to give the team a cushion and set them on their way to victory.

The player of the match was shared across the team after they all contributed to achieving this years aim of winning promotion.

Time for a small break before we reset and go again with the renewed aim of winning a third promotion in three season.

WE ARE GOING UP!

After winning our final game of the season away to Porter this evening and pending a home walkover due to Dodworth forfeiting, the group have made it two promotions on the bounce. (H > F)

The lads can be super proud of themselves, their achievements and should look forward to a well earned break.

EDGING CLOSER IN ECCLESFIELD!

With two games left (due to Dodworth forfeiting their game to us) the boys have their destiny in their own hands.

A good start saw the Main kicking up hill and they took the lead when some good play down the left flank opened up the hosts defence and Pawel ⚽️ fired home from within the box.

A few other chances came and went before the lads switched off and left a player totally unmarked, who clipped a hanging ball to the far stick where the Jags striker tapped home from a yards home with a huge suspicion of offside.

Nevertheless we made a tactical change to go with 3 in the middle to help protect the defence a bit more and than seemed to do the trick and the boys started to get more control of the game.

And it wasn’t long before Finlay ⚽️ on after missing out a litre due to injury fired home to restore the lead.

At half time the plan was to keep players high to counter the hosts defensive setup whilst trying to ensure the defence and centre midfield didn’t lose their focus and go gung ho.

And the lads started well with Finlay ⚽️ again being in the right place to a lot home and extend the lead.

Then from a corner the lads failed to make a challenge and the Jags closed the arrears with a free header from a yard or two out.

After that it felt a little worrisome but the lads dug in found their way and it was Finlay ⚽️ for his hat trick to seal the result and top a fantastic performance down the right hand side.

The player of the match was Pawel 🏆 who was described by the referee as being tenacious in his play.

And so as we wait for a potential helping hand from Pogmoor the boys who have battled all year have earnt the right to finish joint second in the table if they can beat Porter midweek in their final game of the season.

FIGHTING SPIRIT IN FORGE VALLEY!

No game last weekend gave the boys some respite ahead of a top of the table clash away to the champions elect.

The boys seemed in good spirits and quickly got stuck into the hosts, trying to balance containing the Golds stand out players up top whilst offering good forward play. And they quickly took the lead after a fumble at the front stick allowed Zander ⚽️to poke home the opener.

Soon though the scores were level, a nice bit of forward play made room for the oncoming midfielder to hit home the equaliser. Soon after the hosts took the lead as a marker was lost at a corner and a simple tap in header gave the Golds the lead.

The rest of the first half was an evenly split, both teams sitting rather deep and looking to catch the other on the break with both teams fashioning out half chances, but it remained close and 2-1 at the break.

The second half started brightly but a moment of physical dominance saw number 99 fire home to extend the lead. Then a shot went agonisingly wide which would have cut the lead to one goal but following that the game became much more stretched and goals ensued.

The Sheffield outfit raced into a 5-1 lead and a rout was definitely on the cards, but the boys showed their determination to the end, Zander ⚽️ adding to his impressive goals tally for the season and then an audacious free kick from Leo ⚽️ brought the Main to within 2.

However in the final act of the game the Golds hit back with a long range effort of their own to finish off the scoring at 6-3.

Player of the match was Owen 🏆 who made four one-on-one saves in the second half which built the platform to make the score-line more respectable.

Full credit goes to the victors and this seasons champions City Of Sheffield Football club, over the course of the season they have shown the most consistency and have some special players who make the difference.

As for our boys, we now have the challenge of winning our final three games of the season to secure promotion...

WINS OVER WOMBWELL

And just like that promotion is titled back into the lads' own hands. After a hard fought win against a feint promotion rival down at the Manor.

A great start to the game saw a fast switch of play taken full advantage of by Finlay ⚽️ who fired home past the oncoming keeper to give the host the lead.

Shortly after though, a set back. With a few players ball watching the Wombwell striker was unmarked and poked home to give the visitors arguably a deserved equaliser.

However the boys stood up to the challenge and drove their promotion charge on. First Tyler S ⚽️powered forward and stuck home to restore the hosts lead.

Soon after Hayden ⚽️ after his longest period all year without a goal (3 games) found himself back on the scoresheet to extend Maltby's lead.

Leo ⚽️ back in the team after injury also hit if first in three games to put the result beyond doubt only for Hayden ⚽️ to get his second of the game to put the icing on the cake.

A small lapse in concentration did allow the visitors a second consolation goal but that shouldn't take away from a fantastic footballing performance from the boys.

Player of the match was Quaid 🏆 who provided a constant outlet down the left flank.

That results leaves the Main needing 3 wins out of their 4 remaining games to seal second place (possibly a playoff game) and promotion!

PROBLEMS WITH POGMOOR!

After such a fantastic performance and result the group were really looking to push on and make a challenge for the league title but unfortunately things didn't go to plan.

A lacklustre performance saw the boys give away possession all too cheaply and eventually paying the price as the visitors regained the ball high up the field and capitalised to take the lead.

Try as they may, the Main couldn't find their rhythm and looked like the team toiling with a relegation fight rather than pushing for prizes.

A tough half time followed and after some huffing and puffing it was Pawel ⚽️ who grabbed the equaliser with a lovely lofted strike to beat the Pogmoor keeper.

From that point it seemed as tough there could only be one winner, but in the dying seconds, Pogmoor won a corner and sn**ch all three points, condemning the host to a second home defeat in three games.

The player of the match was Ethan 🏆who gave an accomplished and aggressive performance at the heart of the defence.

But as the saying goes a week is a long time in football and it won't even be that as we look to entertain Wombwell midweek in what will be a key game in terms of the teams promotion hopes.

WORTHY WINNERS VS WORKSOP!

After the disappointment in midweek the Main needed to at it from the off against a strong Worksop team who beat them convincingly 5-1 earlier in the season.

The difference a few days makes was significant. The boys were on the front foot, battling for each ball, and really playing football in the visitors half for the majority of the contest.

However they did fall behind, another goal near posts from a set-play both defence and keeper beaten due to some hesitation rather than brilliance from the visitors.

The group, quickly found their way and put the pressure on and deservedly equalised as Finlay ⚽️ slotted home from the right.

Within a few minutes the scoreline was flipped on it's head, another ball down the right released Finlay ⚽️ to double his and the teams tally with another lovely finish past the onrushing keeper.

Half time came and the lads spoke about maintaining their levels and not letting Worksop get a hold of the game and they didn't. Continuing where they left off, the boys continued to press high and when the ball fell for Riley ⚽️ he applied a fantastic finish to lop the visiting keeper and extend the Mains lead.

Another few glaring opportunities came and went for the boys to extend their lead before another set-piece caused hesitation and allowed Worksop to poke home a goal to set up a nervy last period.

And although their tried and came close, it was a goal from the most unlikely source which sealed the 3 points. After a long throw caused more problems in the Maltby box the ball luckily found it's way into Owen's ⚽️ who with only second remaining and the visiting keeper out of his goal after going up for the long throw, lofted the ball down field and made it's way into the empty net to set of the celebrations!

The player of the match was Noah 🏆 who gave a sold display in the middle today, although the team itself did each other proud.

Next up, the Main host Pogmoor and will look to further draw the season to a successful close, but hopefully heed the lessons of last weeks loss to the Jaguars.

JILTED BY THE JAGS!

After a spirited performance and another 3 points on the road the Main were looking to cement there place in the promotion pack with a follow up on home soil, unfortunately football doesn't always work out as planned.

A solid start made it feel like it was only a matter of time before the boys took the lead but after squandering a number of half chances, they took their opponents for granted and lost their discipline, leaving a 1v1 in defence which the lightening fast Jaguars striker duly finished mid first half to take the lead.

The visitors started with 6 at the back but dropped deeper and deeper playing a times an 8-2 formation, but football can be played in many ways and their tenacity and commitment to each other was clear to see as they outbattled and outfought the hosts who just couldn't find a break through.

The game was really that uneventful, almost defence vs attack where on this occasion the defence won and deservedly so.

The group will need to lick their wounds and regroup with a top of the table clash drawing in against Worksop who routed them 5-1 earlier in the season.

Player of the match was Ashton.

BOGEY TEAM BEATEN IN BRAMPTON!

After a steady performance last time out, we were hoping for a more controlled one this time out but it turned into again another game of two halves.

The boys seemed to start well, taking the lead after an attempt by Leo ⚽️ was slipped into the net by the hosts keeper.

But that seemed to throw the lads off, there willingness to play our way dropped and they fell into a battle with Brampton intent on re-imagining Wimbledon, resorting to letting their striker take goal kicks to just whack it at long as he could to their big centre half come striker to win.

And for the reminder of the half the boys, gave away the ball needlessly, overplayed, and failed to match the hosts willingness to battle both on the ground and in the air.

Ending the half 2-1 down, things needed to change and an uncomfortable discussion was needed to re-establish what we as a team are all about.

And hats off to the boys, from the restart they played on the front foot, with more intensity, faster ball movement and bags more aggression and desire.. and they reaped the rewards.

A lovely bit of play released Pawel ⚽️ to bring the score levels. And then very shortly after almost a carbon copy, another powerful finish from Pawel ⚽️ saw the lead retaken.

A small set back came next when a clear offside was missed by the referee and Brampton pulled level. But the lads kept their composure and continued to hold true to their game plan and soon were again in front thanks to Zander ⚽️ making a timely run to find space and finish at the back stick.

Next a lovely period of play led to a fantastic through ball to Riley ⚽️ who took his first touch brilliantly and then coolly finished to make it 5-3 and give the visitors some daylight between the scores.

It wouldn’t feel like a normal win without our fox in the box Hayden ⚽️ popping up to add another and the scoring was finished when Tyler pressuring the Brampton defender forced a mistake that led to an own goal to end the game at 7-3.

Now there are only 8 games left, the Main are playing themselves into contention for promotion if not the championship but need to keep their focus and take it a game at a time and see what they can achieve.

Player of the match was Jensen for a solid performance at the back.

MALTBY GO MARCHING ON IN MONK BRETTON!

A first midweek game of the season (with a few more to come) and the boys got the job done!

A nervy start in blustery conditions saw the hosts use the sun, wind and hill to their advantage as they tried to get shots off from all angles, but it was the visitors who, with a great bit of interchanging play created the opening for Zander ⚽️ to finish of the move!

Then a small switch off from a quick throw in saw the hosts draw level shortly afterwards but as quickly the lead was restored as Tyler Timblin ⚽️ reacted first to poke home!

The rest of the first half wasn't as eventful, a few missed chances from both teams but the Main handled the conditions well and came into the break with the lead by an odd goal.

In the second half the boys began to control proceedings and created more and more chances whilst limited the opposition to nearly none.

Goals from Tyler Scott ⚽️ after taking on almost half the team before slotting home, then another from fox in the box Hayden ⚽️ followed by Leo ⚽️ with a lovely drive from range, saw the result put to bed.

Another lapse (probably down to the game being pretty much sewn up) let Monk Bretton pinch the ball deep in our territory and they made the most of it to reduce the deficit.

But before the final whistle came there was time for Pawel ⚽️ to collect a through ball and complete the scoring at 6-2!

Player of the match was Dylan 🏆 who gave a fine display in the middle of the park!

Next up, our bogey team Brampton United 😲, the boys will need to keep their levels up and look to move within 8 games of the title.
