I’m a hypocrite… but today I tried to right that wrong.

A while back I wrote a post saying “wear the damn shorts” — but truthfully, I didn’t. I wouldn’t wear them unless I was a plane ride away from home.

Today I did.

In my hometown no less, and I walked into one of my favourite coffee shops, … and guess what happened?

Nothing.

No one batted an eyelid. No one passed out. Not even me 😂

But something amazing DID happen.

I spoke to Aimee, a beautiful, clever and caring young lady who works there, and after a quick conversation it turns out she feels the exact same way. Like me, she’d rather struggle through the heat than risk the looks or judgement from others.

And it got me thinking…

Have we forgotten how to uplift people?

Somewhere along the way, too many people started fearing judgement more than being themselves.

That’s exactly why FEAR Academy exists.

Not just to build stronger bodies, but stronger minds. To help people realise that confidence isn’t about looking perfect — it’s about showing up as yourself anyway.

So to Amy, and to everyone else who FEARS the judgement of others…

Wear the shorts. Wear the outfit. Take up the space.
Be unapologetically YOU.

Because what other people say about you is NONE of your business 🤗

Have you ever been so tired that you couldn’t function?
The kind of tired where sleep is the only thing you can focus on… then you wake up and somehow feel just as exhausted as when you went to bed?
We’ve all been there.
But I felt a tired that ran deeper — right to my core. “Weary” is probably a better word for it, and honestly, that’s why I took this trip.

I woke up this morning at 6am with Luke Combs playing in my head — “This One’s For You” — and one line especially stayed with me:
“There’s a couple people that I owe a beer or two… and three or four, I owe more than a few.”
And it made me think about the people in my life I thank God for every single day.

The people who lifted me up when I was so low I couldn’t see light.
The people who, with one message or one conversation, pulled me out of despair and gave me hope again.
People who gave me security, care, belief and a future I had never known within a workplace before.
I won’t mention her name because she’ll go mental 😂 but you’re not just my boss — you’re my friend, and I’m incredibly blessed.

And to every single person who supported me in creating, building and growing FEAR Academy — thank you.
To everyone who has walked through those doors in the past, present or future… thank you.
Let’s not forget that behind every workplace, every gym, every home, every safe space… there were sacrifices made for it to exist.
Of course we all grumble sometimes. We all dream about winning the lottery and travelling the world,
But in the meantime, let’s give thanks for what — and who — we have 🙌
So with that said…
Once a month, FEAR Academy will be running a Faith & Fear class.

We’ll open with prayer, train together with praise music filling the room, and close with prayer and gratitude 🤗

I’ll post details soon on when the first class will be.

After 31 years of being “mum” — a role I love more than anything — I took my first solo trip for a week to figure out who I am outside of being Laurin’s mum, working full time, and running a gym every evening.

At FEAR Academy, I spend so much time helping others become stronger physically and mentally… but I realised I’d never really stopped to ask myself who I am when I’m not needed by everyone else.

So here goes…

The obvious things I love:
My daughter (& Lewis)
My best friend
My sisters
My nephews and great nephew
My Heavenly Father
My FEAR Academy family

But I also found out…

I love spending time by myself
I love swimming
I love reading
I love the ocean
I love that I’m kind
I love that I love easily

And the things I need to work on…

Feeling guilty for taking up space
People pleasing
Overthinking
Apologising too much
Not knowing my worth
Being judgemental
Holding grudges
Finding forgiveness difficult

The gym teaches us that growth only happens when you’re uncomfortable.
Turns out, that applies outside the gym too.

This week reminded me that strength isn’t just lifting weights, showing up for everyone else, or pushing through exhaustion. Sometimes strength is sitting alone with yourself long enough to figure out who you really are.

And honestly… I think I’m just getting started 🤍

We’ve been working quietly behind the scenes… and now it’s finally time to show you what’s next. 💥

FEAR Academy is moving into a brand new premises something we’ve worked incredibly hard to make happen.
Long hours, sacrifices, setbacks, and a vision that never changed.

This new space represents growth, belief, and the next chapter for our community.

This isn’t just a new gym.

It’s a place built for people who want to push themselves, stay disciplined, and become stronger physically and mentally.

We’ve created an environment focused on hard work, functional fitness, strength, and real progress — with more space, better equipment, and a bigger vision than ever before.

To everyone who has supported us from day one — thank you.

This move wouldn’t have happened without you.

Somethings happening….

Sometimes growth means stepping into the unknown… even when it feels scary.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing. ❤️

FEAR Academy is moving to a new premises.
A new chapter.

The same vision, passion and purpose that built this community from day one 💪

We teach people every day to face challenges head on… and now it’s our turn to do the same.

To step out in FEAR. To trust the process. To grow anyway.

FACE EVERYTHING AND RISE 🔥

Thank you to everyone who’s supported us so far — this next chapter is for all of us.

Stay tuned for the reveal 👀

Movement isn’t just about how we look — it’s about preparing for the future.

We all want the confidence of knowing that if we fall at 60, 70, or even 80, we can get back up again. That kind of security doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built through consistent training, nourishing our bodies, and prioritising self-care.

For my birthday, I was gifted a session at Salt Lux Floatation Therapy in Coleraine (Salt Luxe) and wow… the experience was incredible. The feeling of both physical and emotional weight lifting from my body and mind was something I didn’t realise I needed.

Miriam is a beautiful soul who genuinely cares about her clients — your ease, comfort, and wellbeing are clearly her top priority, and it shows in every part of the experience 🤍

2026 is about new experiences — both inside FEAR Academy and beyond it. Growth doesn’t only happen when we leave our comfort zone in the gym… it happens when we’re brave enough to step outside it in life too.

Do new things.

Challenge yourself.

Take care of your body and your mind 💕

Grateful for movement — all of it.

The big workouts, the slow stretches, the gentle walks, and even the days when just getting up counts.

We all have different bodies and different needs.

Exercise doesn’t look the same for everyone, and it isn’t meant to.

What feels right for one person might feel like too much — or not enough — for another, and that’s okay.

Movement isn’t about doing more, pushing harder, or keeping up.

It’s about connection, care, and gratitude for what your body can do today.

Stop giving yourself a hard time for what you didn’t do.

Stop measuring your journey against someone else’s.

Honor what you did show up for — whether that was a workout, a stretch, a walk, or simply choosing rest.

Your body is showing up for you in the ways it can.

Move gently. Move proudly.

It all counts.

Women Aren’t Getting Weaker , our bodies are changing (And Training Should Too). One of the biggest myths in fitness is that women become weaker as they move through different stages of life.

After childbirth, surgery, during your cycle, and through perimenopause and menopause.

The truth? You’re not weaker. Your body is different. And different bodies need different training approaches.

Training After Childbirth

After having a baby, your body hasn’t “failed” , it has done something extraordinary. Core strength, pelvic floor function, sleep, hormones, and recovery all change. This isn’t a time to rush back to what you used to do, but to rebuild intelligently:
* Restore core and pelvic floor function
* Gradually reintroduce strength and impact
* Respect recovery and energy levels
Done right, many women come back stronger than before.

Training Around Your Menstrual Cycle

Your cycle isn’t a weakness — it’s information.

* Week before your period (luteal phase):Many women feel stronger, more powerful, and capable of pushing heavier loads.

* During your period:Energy, coordination, and tolerance may dip. This doesn’t mean stopping — it means adjusting intensity, volume, or expectations.

* Post-period (follicular phase):Often a great time to learn new skills, push performance, and build strength.

Listening to your cycle allows you to work with your body instead of fighting it.

Training in Perimenopause & Menopause

Hormonal changes affect recovery, muscle mass, joint health, and energy — but they don’t mean decline.
In fact, this is when:

* Strength training becomes non-negotiable
* Recovery becomes just as important as effort
* Smarter programming replaces “all-or-nothing” training

Muscle, bone density, confidence, and resilience are still very much buildable.

Women don’t need to train less, we need to train differently at different times. Progress isn’t about pushing through exhaustion or comparing yourself to a past version of you. It’s about adapting, adjusting, and understanding what your body needs now. Your body isn’t broken, It’s evolving and your training should evolve with it.

FEAR Academy isn’t just a gym — it’s an extended family.

2025 gave us memories we’ll carry for life. There were highs and lows. Our members experienced loss, health challenges, the birth of beautiful babies, new relationships — and we were privileged to walk through it all together.

We made mistakes in 2025, and we’re glad we did.

Mistakes aren’t always failures — sometimes they’re the redirection you didn’t know you needed.

Magherafelt is home to some incredible gyms and coaches, and we’re proud to be among them. They’re successful because of what they bring to the table, and we respect that.

But we aren’t those gyms — and that’s okay.

We do things differently. Not wrong. Differently.

We slow things down.

We make it work for you.

We take our time.

We work with many different people, all at once.

Sometimes it doesn’t look perfectly structured — and that’s okay, because it works for our people.

Some clients will come, try it, and move on — and that’s okay too. We’ll even point them toward a gym that suits them better. That’s part of doing things the right way.

2026 will bring change to FEAR Academy.

We don’t know exactly what it will look like yet — but we know it’s coming.

And we’re ready to grow, adapt, and move forward together.

This is FEAR Academy.

And we’re exactly who we’re meant to be.
