🟢Coina take home all 3 Points away to Portrush⚪️

John Lavery opened the scoring on the 7th minute capitalising on a Portrush mistake which was followed 13 minutes later when Mathew McAlynn got the ball at the halfway line taking it by 3 defenders before slotting it away for a perfect solo goal. A deflection from a Portrush free kick seen them pull one back but it wasn’t long before Michael Mullan added another through a brilliant header on the 25th minute. Captain Raymond Duggan stepped up to a free and riffled it into the bottom right leaving the keeper with no chance. 4-1 32nd minute.

Second half was a lot like the first having seeing Coina have a good bit of possession but a mistake in defence from the lads seen Portrush pull it back to a 2 goals deficit on the 85th minute but Jack McAllister gave them the response we needed and scored on the 86th to put the game to bed with Coina running out the rest of their bench in a comfortable win away in Portrush.

Special shoutout to Today’s MOTM Michael Mullan who put on a display in defence aswell as getting on the scoresheet.👏🏻

a Matty Bull Brace makes it 3 in 2 games and 3 points for The Coina on a wet and windy morning at Meadowbank. 🔥✅

The game started with the home outfit maintaining possession and playing with a strong breeze which caused constant dangers on the attack but it wasn’t until 10 minutes before Half Time when Matthew McAlynn capitalised on a keeper mistake and slotted the ball away. 1-0

Coina knew going in at half time with a 1-0 lead now against the breeze things could be difficult but it wasn’t long before new signing John Lavery ran in behind and lifted it over the top of the keeper. 2-0

Not long after our second Matthew McAlynn ran through the defence and perfectly chipped the keeper to leave us 3-0 up 10 minutes into the second half.

The next 5 minutes seen Heights drop 3 men with injury and a further red card seen the game called off on the 65th minute 3-0 to The Coina.

Man Of The Match today was Peadar Coyle who caused a constant threat down the left flank with overlapping and supporting runs, he is pictured with both goalscorers John Lavery and Matthew McAlynn.

Last night’s joint MOTM, our two full backs Peadar Coyle and Turlough Cartin who put on a show in defence in our 6-1 against Riada FC.

The evening got rolling on the 3rd minute with a well executed set piece to put Coina 1-0, maintaining most of the possession in the first 30 minutes with a lot of missed opportunities it wasn’t long before Coina got a second which came through a perfectly weighted pass into Shea Convery who calmly finished it off, 2-0 Coina 36th minute. Convery hungry for more got another 6 minutes later to give us a 3 goal cushion on the 42rd minute, with the momentum Coina got a 4th a minute before the break when Jack McAllister slotted one home for a 4-0 lead at half time.

The second half was very much the same with Coina dominating possession but after falling short on a number of attacks they regained form on the 66th minute when Captain Raymond Duggan ran in behind to put it beyond the keeper into the back of the net making the score 5-0, with a 5 goal advantaged Coina emptied the bench but this didn’t affect the work rate with Coina piling on the pressure and with Riada struggling to get an attack created Coina collected the ball in defence and with a Switch of play from Debutant Pascal Kelly found Turlough Cartin who took a perfect touch and rifled it into the top corner at the near post making the game 6-0.

Riada got a consolation goal in the 89th minute from their second shot of the game but overall it was a night for Coina with a dominant display.
