A few days ago, I shared my thoughts about coach training and how I believe it is inaccessible to the majority of people due to, in my opinion, unnecessarily high training costs.
The post caused quite a stir; a few of the replies confirming exactly what I was saying ... the not so hidden message being the cost needs to be high to maintain exclusivity š¤¦āāļø
Exclusivity being the polar opposite of INCLUSIVITY
And being inclusive means being affordable
So that the people who most need these skills - to benefit the people they work with - can get trained
Whether they manage a care home and want to lead their team more effectively ...
Or whether they are a job 'coach' who actually wants to be able to coach their clients ...
Or whether they are the only paid member of staff and manage a team of volunteers in a charity shop
Believe me when I say a care home manager cannot afford to pay for coach training
And neither can a job coach
Nor can the manager of our local Dog's Trust
This isn't about essential coaching skills for leaders (although they are all leaders)
It's about essential coaching skills for managers working at the coal face; the people who could make a REAL difference if only they had more skills
But this isn't just about coach training
It's about all of the people out there who would benefit from coaching for whom cost is a barrier
And I'm not talking about the unemployed or the homeless
I'm talking about people earning a reasonable salary 30K, 40K, 50K for whom there isn't enough money to pay the bills at the end of the month, let alone pay £100, £200, £300 per hour for coaching
All of this troubles me
And what troubles me most is that this doesn't trouble more Coaches, especially given they all want to 'make a difference'
